Refinish69 has done a fantastic job putting this video together. We should all appreciate his hard work and dedication!

I want to personally thank refinish69...I'm speechless to the fantastic work you've done.
Thank you so much!

What are we going to do to end this? Each one of us has a moral responsibility to help those that can not help themselves.

I'm challenging every reader, Democrat and Republican; I'm challenging all the political Candidates; I'm challenging every American out there...to start putting their ideas into action.
Let today begin the end of homelessness in America.

I want to challenge readers to comment and send their best ideas on how we can start ending this Today...I want to challenge readers, Candidates, and all Americans...to get out there and start making a difference...

"I been thinkin' about us, too, about our people livin' like pigs, and good rich land layin' fallow. Or maybe one guy with a million acres and a hundred thousand farmers starvin'. And I been wonderin' if all our folks got together and yelled..."

- Tom Joad, in The Grapes of Wrath

You know, I been thinkin' & wonderin', too

2. Reagan era slaps us in the face
Up to the 80s there were some homeless but not as mant as today. When the Reaganites swept across America closing Mental Hospitals and ending section 8 relief these people had nowhere else to go. By ending these social programs you can see years later what the cost really was.

3. I read a book back before Reagan destroyed our social services system
Edited on Sat Jun-09-07 04:34 PM by Cleita
called "You Owe Yourself a Drunk". It was a study done of skid row homeless in either Portland or Seattle, which one I can't remember right now. Well, it turns out that these men, did have places to live, usually rooms in run down hotels that only cost a couple of dollars a night. They were substance abusers and often ended up sleeping in doorways because they couldn't make it home making it appear that they were homeless. The shelters were used only when they couldn't make the rent for a few days, which brings me up to the fact that they did work doing day work or panhandling to buy liquor, food and rent.

The study also revealed a sort of rehab they did. When they felt they needed to dry out, they would commit a minor law infraction like breaking a storefront window to get arrested. Usually, sentenced to anything from ten to thirty days in jail, gave them a chance to rest, stop drinking and eat regularly, before they were released to indulge in their habit again, hence that's where the name of the book comes from. There were those few who did prefer to be homeless and live in tunnels or ride the rails like hobos.

In those days, no one was homeless who didn't like to be homeless because there were social programs to fall back on. These are the programs that Reagan and his corporate ghouls systematically destroyed. I hope he has been reborn as a black baby in Dafur. He has a lot of karma to repay. Bushistas take note.

It's a travesty that we allow this to continue.
