3. Maybe Congress should get rid of "the football".
We no longer live under the imminent threat of a first strike from The Council Union. I say "Council" because that's what soviet means in English. They chose the Russian term to make the enemy seem more ominous and alien. Perhaps in the 21st century we can take away the responsibility of authorizing nuclear war from the POTUS and give it to The Joint Chiefs of Staff and the POTUS. I trust career generals alot more than a single elected official like Shrub.

4. There is so much there. Where to start?
How about the really silly first? With the technology available today, can't they shrink the "football" to a "baseball" or even a "golf ball?" (Before you start in on me, I know it is actually a briefcase containing authentication codes and a really reliable cell phone. Or in Bush's case, fake codes and a toy walkie-talkie so he will think he's in charge. Cheney keeps the real codes.)

How about partly silly next? Rachel used a great term there: "legacy polishing." Unfortunately for Bush and Cheney, no matter how much you polish a turd . . .

And lastly, the serious. This nation was founded with the ideal that no one is above the law. We lost that when Ford pardoned Nixon. But we CAN get it back, IF people in power go to prison. Say, a former president from Crawford, Texas, whose "ranch" doesn't have any cattle and claims to have won the same war seven times even though the fighting is still going on.
