3. Have any of these nuclear powered ships sunk or been destroyed?
...How safe are those power plants when such disasters happen? I found this which covers 1950 through 1993 which leaves the last 15 years totally unknown:

<snip>
Selected Accidents Involving Nuclear Weapons 1950-1993
Greenpeace March 1996

The twenty-three accidents listed below involving U.S., Soviet, and Russian nuclear weapons or nuclear-armed ships and submarines are some of the more serious nuclear accidents to befall U.S. and Soviet nuclear forces.

As a result of accidents, some 51 nuclear warheads were lost into sea (44 Soviet and 7 U.S. However, at least one Soviet warhead was recovered). Also, seven nuclear reactors (5 Soviet and 2 U.S.) from three Soviet and two U.S. nuclear-powered submarines have been lost at sea due to accidents. Another 19 nuclear reactors from nuclear-powered vessels have been deliberately dumped at sea (18 Soviet and 1 U.S.).

The U.S. Navy is known to have experienced at least 380 nuclear weapons incidents, but the details are not known. It assumed that other countries with nuclear weapons have had similar nuclear weapons accidents or incidents, but official secrecy means that no information is available.

The U.S. dumps its waste into the ocean. Out of sight, out of mind.

It seems pretty revealing that McCain's infantile "bla bla bla" is what really works up the crowd.

28. He mocks nuclear safety with his blah-blah-blahs. The knuckledraggers applaud.
I'll bet they'd applaud at the remark if they lived near Three Mile Island about 30 years ago. I'll bet they'd applaud if they lived around Davis Besse near Toledo a couple of years ago.

The fact is, if the worst should happen at a nuke plant, the damage would be catastrophic. And we still don't have a sustainable way of taking care of the wastes, unless you consider transporting it thousands of miles to Nevada and sticking it in a cave sustainable.

I agree with your comment Heather. They would cheer because blah-blah-blah is about all their brains could comprehend.

Edited on Mon Oct-27-08 08:08 AM by MrObama
American liberals have no common sense on nuclear power...

When done properly, nuclear power is relatively safe and clean! Radioactive Waste are safe in permanently underground storage 500 meters under the bedrock.

Common usa democrats, what's wrong with you?
