for youth. Compared to old business owners who 'contribute' and are 'experienced'.

1. So, I guess to extrapolate this out - if a person has not been a
'contributing member of society' (say a stay at home mom or someone disabled or students a la Noonan) then they should somehow have a lesser type of vote (say 3/5) or maybe not be allowed to vote until they could prove (W2's) that they were a significantly contributing member of society (and none of this 30k to 50k either - we want solidly contributing Americans). Screw Peggy Noonan and her NY (or just maybe east coast-not to single out just one hotbed of elitism) elitist attitude and mien (I learnt that word in skool).

Please take no offense New Yorkers - I love your city and it was just a parity... uh parody.

2. Wasn't that argument answered during the Vietnam war
when the soldiers dying were too young to vote, and that's why the voting age is the same age as enlistment?

Isn't that the same argument that can be used today? We all have a role to play in our society and one role isn't more important or more worthy of a vote than any other role?

Elitism--indeed.

3. Grotesque
It's been really healthy for Americans that the true nature of Republicans has been so thoroughly exposed during this Presidential campaign.

No longer will the GOP be able to pretend to be a "Big Tent" party, nor will they be able to claim they are not racists.

They have been thoroughly exposed for exactly what they are. Even at places like the National Review, where they pretend to be intellectual and modern and thoughtful, they have simply been unable to hide their ugly bigotry, anti-intellectualism, and outright hostility to democracy.

I think all-in-all the 2008 election will have been a very healthy catharsis for Americans, even though there will be a lot of angry, bitter, gun-toting bible-thumping troglodytes left over.

At least we've now clearly identified the true beliefs of these people, so maybe we have an opportunity to change. As long as we had working and middle-class people who were so willing to put aside their own self-interest and vote Republican, it was going to be hard to move forward. Also, I honestly believe we're going to see the beginning of the end of the power of right-wing talk radio (though that really started back in 2006). After that election and Rush Limbaugh and others saying they were sick of carrying the Republicans' water, and then CARRYING THEIR WATER AGAIN, I'm not sure even the true believers will make the mistake of listening to them again. Good riddance, and we didn't even have to bring back the Fairness Doctrine to do it.

Go Obama!

4. The rethugs are so used to telling the "big lie" they don't
even notice when they're doing it. I'd bet they could lie about almost anything and pass a polygraph test while doing it.
