3. Help this guy out if you can
I've met Rick, have sponsored some events around here, and have donated.

He's a good a guy as you'll ever know, and he's smart, and would serve us well here in Texas. He's behind, and needs our help. Cornyn's gotta go.....

Please help him if you can!

4. A chance to nip Cornyn's future presidential run in the bud

A re-election victory could put Cornyn on the path to becoming a major national Republican leader.

Even though he's a freshman senator, Cornyn, 56, was elected by the Senate Republican Conference as its fifth-ranking Republican. Two of those ahead of him are U.S. Sens. Mitch McConnell of Kentucky and Kay Bailey Hutchison of Texas.

Minority leader McConnell currently faces a stiff re-election challenge, and Hutchison has said she will not seek a Senate leadership role again in order to concentrate on a possible run for Texas governor.

Cornyn has expressed an interest in becoming the chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, the fundraising arm of Senate Republicans. Establishing himself with a national donor base could set the stage for even higher ambitions, such as a run for the White House.
