1. Good for you John McCain
That was very decent of him. It also tells me that he knows he is
going to lose.

2. I think he was told he better calm the nutjobs down.
You must be a very nice and charitable person, Botany. But, I wouldn't give him credit for decency. He has none.

15. Agree w/madaboutharry...he started this hatred
and fanned the flames of racism...it is beyond disgusting and awful to me.

Shame on John McCain for trying to set us back as a country.

4. I think he is afraid if a VERY popular person is hurt because of him
he will not only NOT become president, but will have a legacy that is not exactly the 'maverick' he wishes for!

7. I think it might be fear or it might be because he knows the race is lost or ...
... out of trying to protect the way he is remembered but to me it matters little.

As long as he keeps saying it that is good.

23. I think he realized
that if he kept inciting his supporters with the "Obama = terrorist" meme, he was DEFINITELY going to lose the "undecideds" vote.

My son, who lives in Denver and is an independent, just decided last night to not vote for McCain because of that. Yeah!!

Obama.

18. On his show a couple of days ago, Ed Schultz said that he'd

talked to several Congress persons who told him that they'd be talking to Ernest T. Bass about his trucoluent savaging of a fellow Senator creating a dangerous mob frenzy.

As we can see, he obviously got taken to the woodshed, as evidenced by his obvious distaste for the task.

9. McCain Forgot to Wear the Mask
He finally figured out that everyone already saw his face when he forgot to put on the mask. Such raw hatred by McCain's horde of supporters. Bet you Palin keeps handing out the moonshine of hate in her hate rallys.

10. Was he reading?
His delivery, if he was not reading, lacked sincerity, IMO.

Yup, it looks like he is conceding the race. Go Obama.

Geez, McCain can't say ANYTHING unless it's written on a 3x5 card for him.

11. It's a start
But he's still scum. I think he's more afraid when he meets Obama in the next debate. What an idiot. He knew he was going to go face to face with Obama, and this time Obama isn't going to sit idly by.

12. So he has got a soul after all
Whether it was a political realisation or a personal one it makes no difference. He has realised his mistake apologised for it, well sort of. Time will tell if it is anything more than a Faux apology or whether he continues to lie about Obama's record. Now for his other mistake of picking Palin lets just hope he isn't big enough to replace her with Bloomberg or Buffet.

14. Did he finally realize that the negativism isn't helping?
Maybe he got a whiff of his poll numbers falling and everyone NOT at his rallies turning away from him thanks to the "terrorist" "treason" and "kill him" shouts. Over the past week, all you have heard is Ayers this and Rezko that and "Who is Barack Obama?" Now we hear "You do not have to be scared."? The McCampaign is sounding more and more schizophrenic each day. I think he knows Obama is going to win, so McCain is throwing everything they can think of out there.

What's next? "Did you know that Barack Obama was single-handedly responsible for the attacks on 9/11?" "Did you know that Barack Obama was NOT the creator of the internets?" "Did you know that Barack Obama smoked weed thirty years ago... and he inhaled?"

Give me a break John Sidney McCain III, there's a fork up your ass. You're done. Concede now and spare us the drama.

17. The nutjobs hated it.
Over on freerepublic.com, the posters are very upset with McCain for playing nice. They really, really want him to whip those crowds into a frenzy. One thinks McCain ought to just come out and endorse Obama, if this is the way he fights. They are now openly insulting their own candidate, openly turning against him. Wxcuse me, my schism detector is beeping.

These bottom-feeding scumbag haters are more than happy to toss old Johnny overboard if he tries to tamp down their sick-fuck agenda. This is kind of fun to watch, I must say.

19. It was something that needed to be done...
for whatever reasons, and he did the right thing by saying it.

Unfortunately, that is his whole party's ONLY real position left, if you listen to any of the MSM, so he cannot exactly hammer it home to his base like he should, and neither will the right-wing media, so it's almost just an accountability-free soundbyte. So, if the nutjobs do get pushed to violence, or worse, HE can say, "Well, it's not MY fault. I told them not to be afraid."

21. I'm glad he said that
The best service McCain can do for America now is to talk about the issues. It's not going to help him win, but nothing else will, either. Some boneheaded mistakes (such as picking a running mate who couldn't pass a high school civics exam), some ridiculously incompetent spokespersons (like Carly Fiorina and the hapless Tucker Bounds) and being overtaken by events that underscore the desirability of changing course from the policies of the Bush Regime and those legislators who supported them have come together and defeated John McCain's last best hope to be president of the United States.

The charges of terrorist and anti-patriot were thrown at Obama in the primaries and dissipated into thin air. No one wants to hear them again.

While many here believe Senator McCain is on the wrong side of almost every issue in this election, it is incumbent upon him now to defend those positions. It is part of the democratic process that he should. Even when the result of an election is a forgone conclusion, as this one has become, the election is a discussion of issues. Let McCain give the conservative point of view a a full airing.

This is a noble road we ask McCain to take. If he takes it now, it will enhance his chances of being remembered as the decent, straight talking maverick many once saw in him. It is no doubt how he would like to be remembered.
