30. I can not tell you how upset I am...
The McCain-Palin/Republican hate mongering rallies are so upsetting to me, I can't even begin to express how I feel.

Sure, they started out as a smear campaign but have very quickly turned into KKK rallies. In all the footage, I have not seen any faces of colour, just white people of all ages (but mainly old guys) finally given permission to be outwardly raciest. Every day I read American news (I'm Canadian) and expect to see a headline that reads "Obama assassinated". I'm afraid for his life, his family's lives.

This has to stop!!!

I don't understand why the MSM doesn't turn it around and show Palin's un-American promotion of the Alaskan National Secessionists. I just don't get it!

Please help a stupid Canadian understand how this is allowed to happen in 2008!!!

 I do know that the "MSM" is no friend of liberals, so no help from them, on this.

41. You are not stupid, but you are a citizen of a very different country.
First let me say that I admire Canada very much. If America were more like Canada, we would be a much better country. The reason this is allowed to happen is that we no longer have a truly free press. All of the major newspapers and TV media are owned by large corporations who have benefited from the Republican tax policies going back to the Reagan years. They simply do not want anyone elected who might change tax policy to be a little bit fairer to the vast majority of the citizens of this country. This is why they were so vicious to Bill Clinton and gave Bush a free ride until the disastrous effects of his policies, both foreign and domestic, became too blatant to ignore. There are only a few publications (mostly with low readership numbers, such as The Nation) that are not part of this Republican corporatist capitalist globalization propaganda machine. The pity of it all!

Welcome to DU!

77. Obama = Positivity and Hope
And has education and thoughtfulness behind that, plus he works hard and has proven to have great leadership shills. McCain and Palin are hate mongers. We have no room for such nastiness.

56. There is a sad and scary trait that most civilizations and people
mostly repress.

When prompted sometimes by fear of not being included, personal loss of employment, social position, family structure, monetary stability, physical changes beyond their control, they look for a reason.

If met with the ability to shift the blame from a personal fault, rationally difficult event to explain, or a chain of reasons, and the focus is promoted by a well heard entity, the blame is easily and conveniently transfered to one group of people or one person.

This, well heard entity, has the responsibility to temper this with responsible reasonable rhetoric.
When it it allowed to flame without restraint it becomes hateful and mob mentality escalates.

It can happen anywhere there is someone who sees advantage in using mass hysteria. Any one who has a large view of the disarray and harm such action can produce, would not use this motive.

It is called an incite to riot. It is wrong to ignore research into credibility and motive of the accuser. It is wrong to promote and extend the irresponsible fear, and it is wrong not to loudly denounce these actions and either investigate the accused responsibly or accept the given explanations.

America has not been lead by our Constitution, but by Corporate Interest for many years. We and any group or government has to stay vigilant to assure that civil rights out weigh corporate rights.
Also religious rights must be protected on an individual level as well as the personal right to
free association.

The use of innuendo to crush an political opponent has been used may times but when it cross into
violent response by the public it is up to the promoter to control the situation.

Sadly, we have this tact being used on the base of the RW republican party which is radical and can involve a personal moral commitment to this McCain and Palin. George bush also used his religious affiliation to gather this base for support. It is sad that they believe so fervently and their candidate do not respect them with the truth. It is shameful and not what we the Constitution guides us to be.

We will hopefully see this as a bitter fight that is healed by an Obama unifying administration.

76. I definitely cannot help you understand it, considering I do not
understand it all myself. But I can tell you that I feel te same sort of sadness you express. I always tend to get pretty wound up and passionate at election time, but never have I found myself feeling this emotionally overwhelemed. I have been at the point of tears- no, sobbing- several times these last few weeks. (Including just two minutes ago). There is the potential for great and positive change on the horizon, I believe that. But it seems that we have to go through the fires of evil and hatred to get there. The disgusting words spewing from the mouths of some of these people has me so confused and angry, and just plain sad! The sacriest thing is realizing that it has always been there, under the surface. How do we make it better????????????

he is a man without Hope.
I googled hugging McCain and only found these three pics bush, rudy and lieberman.

I googled the same for Obama and here is what I found and there are many more.

I could not find a single pic of McCain holding or hugging a child.

so if obama is a bad person due to his "relationship" with ayres, then what does that make mrs. annenberg (whose foundation had obama and ayres serving on the board)? it would connect the annenbergs to "terrorists" and if *they* are connected (mr. annenberg who was a "United States Ambassador to the United Kingdom in 1969" and "contributed substantially to Ronald Reagan's 1980 presidential campaign" and mrs. annenberg "was named Chief of Protocol of the United States" by reagan http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leonore_Annenberg) then certainly ronald reagan is also connected as is everyone who voted for him. (you know, those 5 degrees of separation and all)

25. 1958 or 2008?
Grizzled, regressive scumbag ideology cannot and will not prevail in this election.

People need to understand that existing plentifully among these Pennsylvanian and Ohioan Grand Wizards-sans-hoods are great people who are becoming the new and not-so-silent majority - those who are willing to step up and say

"I refuse to pass down the tradition of hatred, smearing and lies to our children."

"I will not give this country up to reactionary fanatics."

"We're experiencing one of the darkest eras in the past half century, but out of it will come light."

"I don't want to fight a created enemy anymore."

"We need to rethink our criteria for electing officials."

"'CEO Presidents' can only help fellow CEOs. I want a leader who guides and serve for the interests the rest of us."

"There IS hope."

And on the 5th, it will come.

The level of hatred and ignorance revealed at the Palin-McCain Nazi/KKK hate rallies is literally terrifying. These are Americans? Hateful, racist bigots, egged on by putrid scum like Limbaugh and Hannity. The country is full of them.

40. McCain and Palin are putiing a target on Obama's back ...
Edited on Fri Oct-10-08 09:44 AM by adsdan
When the shouts of "terrorist", or "kill him", or "treason" are shouted out at rallies, and are ignored by both McCain and Palin, it gives tacit approval for these angry sentiments.

This is the lowest kind of tactic - allowing Obama to be painted as the enemy, not a political one, but one of our nation. It is appalling and shameful - truly un-American.

Obviously, from the footage at the beginning of this moving piece, the tactic is working with some - which is scary considering the facts on this subject. But the real fear is that McCain and Palin are inciting hatred (perhaps piggybacking on latent racism) on a level that truly puts Obama's life in peril.

McCain and Palin should be ashamed of themselves - more than that they should be shamed publicly every minute of every day, not only on forums such as this, but in the mainstream media which is also complicit if it doesn't speak out against these horrible and dangerous smears.

I watched most of this with my 4 year old son. Whenever he saw
a young boy, he'd say "That's me!" And all the
girls were his sister. I told him to always remember that - we
are all of each other. Children are so perceptive - he
thought the people spewing hate were gross, and all those who
were hopeful - he smiled and identified with them. Children
know.

Those neandertals in the beginning remind me of the people that used to track me down by phone and harrass me because of a LTTE that I had written or the ones that told me to face that what I did, and I am a teacher mind you, hurt children. :eyes: The last laugh was on them and I hope the last laugh will be on these yokels!

72. Thank you again to everyone, the response has been overwhelming......

I'm genuinely blown away and so lifted by how moved people have been by the video, it's absolutely wonderful to see it spread around the internet because it's all about fighting hate with hope, and anything that helps spread that message, no matter how small, warms this old heart!

My initial reaction when I saw the video with the vile comments of the McCain/Palin supporters was one of rage and hate, but then I took a deep breath and realised that's exactly how these people want us to react. It's all about division, fear, bitterness and ignorance.

The ONLY way to respond, in my very humble opinion, is to dig a little deeper to spread the message of hope, unity and - damn it - love. And that, for me, is what Barack Obama is all about, allied to his intellect, strength, and solid plans for America's future, economically and politically.

Again, thank you everyone for the comments, I am absolutely thrilled this video has touched so many of you, it just represents how I feel about Barack Obama and what he offers the world.

Take care,

Jackeens (aka ANewDawn08 on YouTube).

PS Sorry for going on, but I meant to add - some feel the video plays too much on emotions, particularly with the choice of Obama photos. I respect that view, but those photos were not staged, there are snap shots of Barack Obama's interaction with the people he meets across America, I could have chosen 1,000 more. They simply demonstrate his humanity, which cannot be faked, as a contrast to the hate that filled the opening part of video.

74. Obama. McCain. What will we be voting for?
http://genegeter.blogspot.com/2008/09/obama-mccain-what-will-we-be-voting-for.html

Obama. McCain. What will we be voting for?

Sure it is so easy to say, go out and vote on November 4th, but what will we be voting for? People fight to make sure every vote is counted for too and you know MTV has this choose or lose campaign. Yet, when we choose, we still lose. We don't choose and we still lose.

In one corner, we have John McCain (I wish he acted more like John McClane) who will most likely run the country like our current president so more rough times ahead. Barack Obama stands in the other corner who sounds very promising like a senator version of Muhammad Ali, but will they let Obama change the country?

Does the president really have the power? With the rich wanting to stay rich and having the power to do whatever they want for so long, is change really possible?

What's more possible right now, well, more hate for others, hate within our own communities and hate for ourselves, you know racism and self-racism, Obama being killed or McCain having a heart attack, lol, or our current president pulls a Roosevelt on us and comes up with a way to run the country for another four years because the war on terrorism. So what will we be voting for?

It could be possible whether we vote for Obama or McCain, nothing will change in this country and we voted to keep things the same.

Check out this funny video about Sarah Palin at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IVEDWlESHYo

79. The problem with liberals
is (Myself included)that we don't have the stomach to act like these hateful people. We rarely stoop to their level and that may be a good thing but this campaign is starting to feel almost like a war. Never been to war and not belittling those who have (see I'm pissed off but still apologizing). Somehow these people find a way to act like this and still sleep like babies at night. I just hope finally peace and hope can reach all the people in this country in November.
