2. Hubby and I were both wondering what was up with that
He also seemed to brush by Michelle in a way that was kind of rude and dismissive.

4. Idiot McCain is probably afraid the color will come off on his hand.
Edited on Wed Oct-08-08 06:27 AM by sandyj999
He is definitely a doddering old man and this forum did him no favors.

6. I don't see that as bad as it is played.
Watch again. McCain comes over to Obama and taps him on the back and then shows him Cindy. It appears that McCain wanted Obama to greet Cindy. After Obama first reaches out to McCain, he then shakes Cindy's hand and you see McCain reach out too, when he realizes that Obama had reached out to him. Don't get me wrong. I still think he treated Obama abysmally, but let's not blame him for something he didn't do when he did so many other things badly.

9. I agree more with your analysis than
the alternative presented by the article. After all, McCain did give him the "pat pat" on the back, and it looks like he was intending on being a gentleman and introducing his wife first, but kinda got confused when Obama reached out for him. My grandfather sorta acts the same way, just because he is getting up in age.

19. I've been involved in
lots of interactions just like that...

it's sort of like walking on a narrow pathway and meeting someone coming the other way and both you and the other person move in the same direction and get in each others' way until the whole thing gets worked out somehow.

And the handshake thing...yep...I've done it myself...no harm intended, but it looks worse than it really is...

10. Agreed, Sukie
I do think that Wolf is right in that McCain has disdain for Obama, but I don't think that particular clip was indicative of that.

11. I agree with you.
McCain quite clearly tapped Obama on the shoulder to get his attention for some reason. It wouldn't make sense for that reason to be just so he could set up a snub in Obama's face -- not even in McCain world.

22. I agree. It was more awkward than insulting.
Of course the gracious thing to do is to shake the offered hand. I can't speak for you, but I don't always do the gracious thing. There are plenty of more solid examples of McCain's feelings toward Obama.

What could be more harmful to McCain were the endless shots of Barack and Michelle all smiles with the crowd afterwards, with John and Cindy completely absent.

27. McSneer didn't reach out at all. And the 'tap tap'
was really forced. Tapped then stepped away quickly. Body language is everything.

Not sure, as he is out of the shot... but that is what it looked like to me.

I think they did shake hands just before McCain got in the way of the teleprompter.

21. I think that could go either way, but what I did notice
was that Queen von McCain did not shake hands with any of the
audience. She walked with her hands behind her back so that
none of the serfs would even dare think it proper to touch her
ladyship. I imagine she did not want to sully her skin with
the filth of the rabble. Point of fact, you cannot buy class.
