Nobody really knows where Gustav will hit land in the U.S. at this point. But, it makes great hype for the media gerbils to throw at their viewers/listeners. However, they didn't put one and one together and realized that their projections for Gustav hitting New Orleans coincides with their beloved Republican convention. So, now they put themselves in a dilemma and are wringing their hands over something that may not happen.
Much of the media gerbils' hurricane coverage in the past has been having some staff member standing in the storm getting water blown at them by the bucket. Outside of warning affected areas of where and when the storm will hit, I don't know where the dilemma is. What would a split screen accomplish?
Oh look! there's another metal roof getting torn off. There's another tree limb getting ripped. Look at those boxes blowing across the set. Other than speeches from the party's nominees, there's really no hard news coming from a convention, either. It's 99% opinion, analysis and spin.
Brian Williams gave about the lamest non-answer on what would receive priority at the end.
