Just got a call from my family practice doctor. She said the eight words I never like to hear from doctors..."I am sending your bloodwork to the pathologist."

Apparently my hemoglobin is at an all time low and my platelets are elevated. I will not know anything until later this week. I hate this. (not the L word, not the L word...please, not the L word).

Thoughts, good vibes and prayers for me are appreciated and heartily welcomed.

I had the same thing happen to me in 1977 .. MANY years ago. I thought for sure I had the 'L' word especially when the hematologist called for a bone marrow test to be done.

What I had was IdiopathicThrombocytopaeniaPurpura.

The platelets were being properly manufactured but being destroyed in my body somehow (idiopathic they don't know why or what or how). What they did was put me on prednisone for many months and when I could no longer tolerate the headaches and weight gain etc, they removed my spleen. A fairly easy to go through surgery that CURED the ITP! I have had NO recurrence in all these years.

My symptoms in the beginning were, extreme fatigue, lots of bruises, extended menstrual cycles and sleeplessness.

8. UPDATE

The thrombocytosis (elevated platelets) are likely due to my Iron Deficiency Anemia. Once we get the Hemoglobin back to normal levels, we will run the tests again.

Whew!

I feel like I have really dodged a big bullet here!
