NLRB approves new bargaining unit for Capital District nursing home

http://www.empirestatenews.net/News/20080107-3.html

Schenectady – The National Labor Relations Board in Washington, DC has certified a vote by employees of The Avenue Nursing Home in Schenectady to join 1199 SEIU United Health Care Workers.

Some 150 workers at the nursing home voted last summer to join 1199, but the nursing home maintained to the NLRB that the vote was invalid. The regional office of the NLRB upheld the July vote and supported the workers’ right to join the union.

The union Sunday announced that the NLRB in Washington has certified the representation to allow 1199SEIU to represent the workers.

The bargaining unit will consider of LPNs, certified nursing assistants, dietary, maintenance and housekeeping employees and receptionists and unit clerk/secretaries
