http://www.aflcio.org/issues/politics/volunteernow.cfm Last Saturday, thousands of union members across the country gave a few hours of their time to make a change in their communities and in our country. Armed with a few talking points and leaflets about the candidates who will fight for working families, these volunteers took to the streets to take back America.
Saturday was a chilly and rainy day in the Philadelphia area, yet hundreds of volunteers gave a few hours of their time to go door to door to talk to union members about the upcoming elections. Each volunteer had their own reasons for being there, from concerns about the skyrocketing cost of health care to worries about Social Security and jobs being shipped overseas. No matter what their reason, each volunteer knew that by participating in the Labor 2006 program, they were making a difference for their community, their state and our country.
These volunteers’ stories are so powerful we wanted to share a few of them with you. Click here to watch a short video from last weekend’s Labor 2006 Canvasses in the Philadelphia area.
On Nov. 7, voters will decide whether we will have another two years of Republican corruption and abuse of authority or whether we will take America in a new direction. This is a year of incredible opportunity for working families, but we must all take responsibility for turning that opportunity into a reality. Can we count on you?
With just 27 days left until Election Day, now is the time to get involved. Just a few hours of your time each week will make a huge difference in the outcome of this election. Click here to sign up to volunteer with Labor 2006.
We are committed to doing everything we can to make a positive change for working families in November, and we hope that you’ll join us in that fight.
