DES MOINES -- President Bush won't get the last word on Iraq, Illinois Sen. Barack Obama said Saturday night before a large crowd at the state AFSCME convention.

The crowd of more than 250 greeted Obama with a rousing applause after his statements about the vote this week in Congress.

“If we get 15 more votes in the Senate, we can end the war,” Obama said. “He doesn’t get the last word on this. You can help to bring an end to this war. Call your senator, tell them if they don’t switch their vote on Iraq that you will change your vote in November.”

Obama drew the labor crowd in from the beginning of his address and received several significant applauses when discussing Iraq, universal health care and giving Americans the right to organize for labor.

Obama's appearance at the state AFSCME convention at the Airport Hilton follows visits this week by major Democratic rivals Hillary Clinton and John Edwards as well as Bill Richardson and Chris Dodd. See stories on the earlier appearances in the news column at www.iowapolitics.com

Obama also pledged to address universal health care in his first term as president.
