CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Early clouds threatening rain gave way to sunshine as local members of the United Mine Workers and AFL-CIO gathered at the Capitol complex for a "Turn America Around" rally to gain support for health care reform.
The issue has been widely debated since last year's presidential elections.
National and state union officials delivered the rallying cry to hundreds of people as free hot dogs and sno-cones were served.

With a large U.S. flag behind them, National AFL-CIO Secretary-Treasurer Rich Trumka along with Gov. Joe Manchin and state AFL-CIO Secretary-Treasurer Larry Matheney spoke to the crowd from the steps of the Capitol.
Speakers noted that United Mine Workers President Cecil Roberts, an eastern Kanawha County native, wasn't able to make it to the rally because he was with his mother at her home in Cabin Creek, where water levels rose after the weekend's rainfall.
While the officials spoke about the importance of the Employee Free Choice Act, which would make it easier for workers to join unions and create penalties for employers who discourage their employees from joining unions, their focus Sunday afternoon was health care reform.
