Lynne Cheney: "We have been protected by more than luck."

http://www.bradenton.com/mld/bradenton/news/local/14400849.htm

Hundreds turn out for fundraiser with Lynne Cheney

<snip>

"This president and this vice president work every day to keep our nation safe. We have been protected by more than luck. We have been protected by leaders who don't let down their guard," Cheney said.

"They are determined, they are tough. They will continue making progress for the American people," Cheney said.

...

Cheney also talked about her grandchildren, one of which called her "Grandma of the United States."

"When I think about national security, I think about my children and grandchildren. The primary role of our national government is to keep our nation secure. Their prime duty is the active defense of the American people," Cheney said.

...

Cheney was a replacement for former White House Chief of Staff Andrew Card, who had been scheduled to speak until his resignation earlier this year.

And how much "safer" are we going to have to get?

Terror attacks on the rise, report reveals
WASHINGTON -- The number of terrorist attacks documented by U.S. intelligence agencies jumped sharply in 2005, crossing the 10,000 mark for the first time, according to U.S. counterterrorism officials and documents obtained by Knight Ridder Newspapers.

Edited on Fri Apr-21-06 08:24 PM by joemurphy
that we haven't had another attack.

When you talk about the active defense of the American people, Lynn, do you include the people of New Orleans and the Gulf Coast? Our unbodyarmored
troops in Iraq?

Does security include freedom from outrageous gas prices and political and business graft? Should we feel safe and secure when your husband leaks the name of CIA agents? Should we feel safe and secure when he lies to us about Iraqi nuclear programs?

And given you're husband's actions, why should we pay any attention to you, Lynn?

Edited on Fri Apr-21-06 08:23 PM by Just Me
Your conscience is as shallow as am empty puddle. Hope you get to be on the receiving side of your amorality, soon. When your kids and grandkids bear the weight of your evils, that would normally hurt you most; but, you tend to stay centered in that empty-puddled conscience of yours.

19. Who's "we"?
Certainly not the victims of Hurricane Katrina. Certainly not the victims of outsourcing and other forms of corporate greed. Certainly not the middle class, many of whom are holding garage sales and pawning personal belongings to pay for gas so that oilmen can continue to practice their shameful, exorbitant profit-mongering. Certainly not our soldiers, who are undersupported in untold numbers of ways, both in country and here at home.

Are we safer? Does safety include a reasonable expectation that we will have a job? A home? Food? Access to cooling and heat? When widespread poverty and anger leads to violence and crime rates soar, are "our children and grandchildren" safer? When we deliberately provoke and alienate not only members of a so-called "axis of evil" but historical allies as well, are our "children and grandchildren" safer? Better off?

I guess it depends on who "we" is. And what "safe" means.

25. So , Lynn was Andy's replacement, after he stepped down
as chief of staff, as speaker.

Hate the way the cheneys and the bushs and rice keep saying they are keeping americans or the american people safe, like they are separated by a continent from we americans. Wish they would use the words "keep this country safe" or "protection of this wonderful country."
