Sale of undergarments with religious verses sparks anger

SHARJAH — Many Christians and Muslim customers who shopped at the annual commercial fair of garments, perfumes, shoes and various stuff in Al Shaab Club in Sharjah expressed their anger and indignation over the selling of ladies underwear in which religious verses that include the name of God and Jesus Christ are printed clearly. Moza Al Ahmedi, a customer who visited the Shop No. 44 run by a Chinese seller, said: “I was shocked at the words printed on the underwear. The words read: ‘For God So Love the World that He Gave His Only Begotten Son’. These words should be written on a respectable object, not on underwears.”...

I’m a Muslim, but I felt offended as well by the mention of Christ, because I believe in prophets and heavenly books, as the Holy Quran ordered us to respect other religions...

Mohammed Al Imam, Islamic scholar from the Sharjah Islamic Affairs and Auqaf, said that we will not accept any kind of blasphemy targeting any religion. Insulting Jesus Christ is like insulting the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him)...

1. Since when is underwear not respectable?
I'm more offended when bible verses are used to oppress people.

2. I'd say it's akin to wearing the flag draped across one's rear end...
it gives the appearance of disrespect, even if none is intended.

5. Jesus and Mohammed can endure my insults
without damage. "Though these words have long been squeezed of meaning, still they fall from many tongues."

Neither Jesus nor the Prophet are the problem. Extemists, who follow the form rather than the message are the problem.

13. "Bud" is a gender neutral term
that signfies things like "I bet I can trust you to have my back. We are clearly on the same side."

Whereas "bud-ette" suggests a female who is trust worthy and and clearly on the same side.

Hmmmm I stand by my original statement, which is correct if not complete.

Thanks.

11. The Cleric, Sir
Is just going to have to get used to things people who do not share his views do and say that he considers blasphemy, without getting his knickers in a twist over it. He has no right to demand other people coddle his delicate constitution, and cannot expect others to abide by, and certainly cannot be allowed to attempt to enforce others to abide by, his own peculiar views of what can and cannot be said about anyone or anything.

12. I would hope that Jesus and Muhammed would be more offended
by children dying of starvation and easily prevented disease than some ridiculous consumer product.

15. At a "Claire's" store a few years ago,
I found a pair of slinky, not-quite-a-thong pink silk ladies' underwear. On the front, printed in bold block letters: "WWJD"

And they were $1.00 on sale. They were so funny I had to buy them, just to prove I wasn't lying about their existence.

This item was "Made in China". I had the feeling the designers had no idea what that logo meant, but they were putting it on everything else so why not panties!

21. Don't the Mormons wear special underwear?
I seem to remember hearing that the Mormons wear special long undies with religous verses on them to protect them from...well, I'm not really sure what the undies are supposed to protect them from.

24. So god designed our bodies, and made some bits bad?
Would wearing a religious text be ok on my head, on my chest, across my breasts?

It must be awfully hard to get your head straight when you believe this sort of stuff.

If I create a work of art I love it all equally.
I guess god must be a failure as an artist.
