2. Imagine the heating bills though
I saw a program last year on this type of thing; that is, old school buildings for sale in the frozen parts of the country with declining populations. They focused on a small-but-growing tech business from the West Coast that was being priced out by high real estate. I just remember this young couple camped out in this huge building that needed repairs and retrofitting.... The townspeople were mostly happy to have them move in, though.

Sigh. To coastal DUers (East or West coast) real estate prices in places like Nebraska look surreally low. As the Realtors' adage has it: "Location, location, location."

3. Looks sort of like one from Portsmouth NH
That has been sitting their for years trying to figure out what to do with it. Has a great spot so guess it will be fought over until it falls down. My old Maine grade school turned into a police station and I bet it is a job to heat also. I can still smell the coal from that building and see the oil floors. Grade school stays with you I guess. We had 5 in my small town and now they have buses to one big school. I recall one had out house which we all laughed about and two one room one had just shut down.

4. For people who can work anywhere, places like this are great
Can you imagine the possiblilites for an artist's "colony", or a group of young techhies just getting started.? They could live on the top floors, , and use the rest for storages and working..and play basketball whenever they liked..:)

Daycare onsite..

Of course it's in the middle of nowhere, but I bet the air's pretty clean there:)

5. I think it's probably a great deal for young people
Not so much for those of us with older bones and a lifetime spent in warmer places! LOL B-)

7. With 3.24 acres as well..........
and I imagine there are some out-buildings that go along with it. Ahhhh....if only it weren't in Nebraska. What do you think the asking price would be for that property in California? New York? Donald Trump couldn't afford it!

8. Heck, the AMI building in Lantana FL - the one that got anthraxed
sold for even less then that. $40,000 for a 64,000 sf building plus 6 acres of prime FL real estate on I-95. Of course, a friend of Jeb's grabbed that deal real quick and Guiliani is still trying to clean the place up.

17. It is great!
what a deal! No wonder it is under contract now. If had had the money I would have used it as a homeless shelter. It would be perfect.

I'd even contribute :)

This 3-Story Brick building features a total of 6 forced-air furnaces, which range from 15 to 20 years in age. The water heaters are gas-operated, and the building is equipped with fire alarms throughout. The main building contains the majority of the classrooms, along with the administrative offices. The east wing includes the gymnasium, 3 classrooms, and 2 locker rooms. The detached structure features additional classrooms, air conditioning, and restrooms. The entire building is wired for the Internet. The original building contains some asbestos pipe wrapping, which is inspected regularly as required by law. There is an asbestos inspection report dated March 24, 2005 available upon request. The main building has no elevators, however the east wing has access for wheel chairs as required by the American's with Disabilities Act (ADA).

14. What a lovely old building
One could make part of it a private residence, and use the rest for a retail venture or office space, either one's own business or rented out. I don't know anything about that town, but in a larger city it would be a good deal with lots of potential.

just under 20K sq ft.. in Kansas This one's a 1950 school.. They even have a JAIL for sale :)

It's sad to see these historic places being replaced with flimsy modular buildings with zero character
