Man Gets $218 Trillion Phone Bill
By Associated Press

April 10, 2006, 3:08 PM EDT

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia -- A Malaysian man said he nearly fainted when he recieved a $218 trillion phone bill and was ordered to pay up within 10 days or face prosecution, a newspaper reported Monday.

Yahaya Wahab said he disconnected his late father's phone line in January after he died and settled the 84 ringgit ($23) bill, the New Straits Times reported.

But Telekom Malaysia later sent him a 806,400,000,000,000.01 ringgit ($218 trillion) bill for recent telephone calls along with orders to settle within 10 days or face legal proceedings, the newspaper reported.

2. That's what you get for calling all the way to Malaysia!

Oh, wait...

(It's safe to laugh, I think; I believe the phone company will notice the error.)

On edit: It wasn't clear whether the bill was a mistake, or if Yahaya's father's phone line was used illegally after after his death.

Which brings up the interesting question of how the hell you use a phone and get charged with a near-quarter-quadrillion phone bill.

5. Malaysia's one of those
enlightened countries that execute people for drugs.

Gotta love that.

Is a sarcasm smile really necessary here?

6. "I'd like to make a heaven to earth call, just charge it to my
Telekom Malaysia number."

"That'll be $218 trillion."

"Holy shit."

Just think how much God is spending to talk to Bush.

No wonder God doesn't answer prayers. It's too expensive, especially if He handles it through the telephone company.

9. We got a bill from one of our suppliers for 2.3 million dollars
Even though I knew it was wrong, it made me catch my breath.

I called them and said "hey, our $230.65 bill turned into $2.365 million ($2,365,000.00)...can you help me with this one?"

Laughing their butts off, they fixed the problem...I framed the thing and hung it on the wall.

Imagine though our surprise as a new small business getting THAT notice.
