Wisconsin voters weigh in on whether U.S. should quit Iraq

People in communities large and small gathered signatures on petitions that put the referendums on the spring election ballot, urging President Bush to bring home the troops. Though the referendums carry no weight, organizers hoped to send a message.

Terri Librizzi, 78, said she wanted to send a message to the president when she went to the polls in Shorewood to vote for the measure to bring the troops home. Seventy percent of voters approved the measure.

"Maybe if George Bush's daughters would have to go into the service, the war would end tomorrow," Librizzi said.

1. Rubbish. If those two party girls went into the service

you can bet they'd have cushy jobs in New Jersey.

There is no way the children of the rich and famous go to war unless those children specifically request combat postings, and often not even then (remembering Al Gore and his assignment).

I know it's nice to fantasize about a draft that takes all classes and assigns them randomly, but it's never, ever going to happen.

Prime example :celebrity Gene Simmons www.genesimmons.com frequently has dialog on his website, and he is pro-war. Admittedly this seems to be the only thing he agrees with Bush on.

He has a son who is about 17 and I can GUARANTEE is there was a draft, his son would not be anywhere near the front line.

Matter of fact, he himself never served in Viet Nam even though he was of age.

Funny how the people who never served always scream "kill" the loudest.

Now, if there were a tamper-proof draft and scions of the rich and powerful stood the same chance of ending up in a war zone as the kids of the poor and working class... ;)
