The urge to manipulate others' minds and bodies seems never to go away. I waited until I was twenty five before taking up alcohol and twenty seven before trying smoke.
I have never gone bankrupt. I don't drink, now, not because of some misguided need to be a holier-than-thou republican, nor any other bragging consideration. I simply lost my taste for its taste and the effects became disagreeable. I am and have always been a responsible citizen, fully capable of choosing my intoxicants, needing no gov't assistance.
I have to consume an extraordinary amount of chemicals to assure the survival of my body, and experimental history has proven the efficacy of cannabis in augmenting and reducing those chemicals. Nausea control is important for me, as well, and pot is quite helpful in this regard.

Two hundred milligrams of morphine sulfate per day does nasty things for me. Cutting that amount in half helps a lot. There are other considerations but that's enough for now. I don't wish to dump all this personal garbage but felt that a civil question deserves a civil answer.

and having quit both long ago, I can say with absolutely no compunction that, for THIS unrepentantly socially libertarian* deadhead, alcohol was by far the more dangerous, deadly, troublemaking and difficult to kick substance in my life. Humans have been altering their consciousness since the beginning of time, and all substances have their up and down sides ("Just say no" simplistic platitudes notwithstanding. I'd like to see the folks who make noise about how "this is your brain on drugs" explain why the human brain comes equipped with a cannabinoid receptor), but for me the negatives for alcohol waaaaaaaaaaay outweighed the positives. The reverse was pretty much true for pot, which I found stimulated my creativity, at least when I was younger.. Alcohol only got me into trouble.

*both pot and alcohol should be legal, of course. What consenting adults do with their own bodies, as long as they don't harm anyone else, isn't the business of governments, would-be busybodies, or self-righteous control freaks of any stripe IMHO.
