Who's the next old Rethug to buy the dirt farm? You know these things happen in threes.

19. It's really hard to mourn warmongers who attack & kill innocent civilians.
Good riddance to him. Caspar avoided jail only because of the presidential pardon.

33. "How I love to watch the morn
with golden sun that shines
up above to nicely warm
these frosty toes of mine
the wind doth taste of bittersweet
like Jasper wine and sugar
I bet it's blown through others' feet,
like those of ...

.... Caspar Weinberger."

If you remember Bloom County, Opus sorta had a thing for Cap Weinberger. Mostly making fun of his name, as in the above.

In "One Last Little Peek" Berkeley Breathed writes

"Shortly after my first effort at serious poetry hit the page in 1983, I received the following note on the official stationery of the US Secretary of Defense:

Dear Mr. Breathed,

Many a morn I've longed to see
A comic strip be kind to me.
On 30 March, before my eyes
A penguin watched a warm sunrise.
In this land of so much bounty,
Could I have that great Bloom County?

Sincerely,
Caspar Weinberger

I sent it to him. Remember Caspar's letter when you are trying to get something from someone who is not inclined to give it to you. All you need to know is here."

That's mostly how I remember him.

24. I wouldn't say ugly
because if you have ever read what passes for posts at FR, you would know that what is being said here is a matter of resignation, of sarcasm, of cynicism. You need to put things into perspective, and to be around for awhile before you can catch the sometimes nuanced posts of members.

Yes, we are bitter, and yes, we have a lot of issues to deal with that are with us because of the right wingnuts, but constant and unfailing evil is a tenet of the right, and less on the left.

Edited on Tue Mar-28-06 12:03 PM by CottonBear
Ford is a mostly decent man and an old-fashioned Eisenhower type conservative.
He did pardon Nixon though. :(

Ford was a decent president. No one died and the constitution was kept as written. I wouldn't mind seeing Dickie take a dirt nap.

28. Ford may have pardoned Nixon, but he wasn't a criminal...
and an arrogant, braggard criminal at that--not like the Reagan/Bush mafia who commit their crimes in broad daylight and dare anyone to defy them.

I used to be mad at Gerald Ford for pardoning Nixon, but I would take Nixon any day over the evil, demented Chimp. I can't believe I would ever say that, but there it is.

29. I agree. I lived throught that time.
What was his speech? "Our long national nightmare is behind us."

Well, it was until 19 freaking 80 when Reagan and the Bush/PNAC gang pulled an October Surprise and got a jump start on Iran-Contra and put Ronnie into office.
