ABC This Week: George Will in steadfast denial of global warming
Says we can't afford to cut trillions from the world economy to cut back on dangering the environment.

And that woman from The Nation, can't remember her name, was she ever able to finish a comment w/o being interrupted?

3. Katrina van DeHeuvel (sp?)
slayed him at the end saying that people who are in denial of global warming are no different than those who denied that smoking was dangerous decades ago. (paraphrased)

Love her even if I'm blocking the correct spelling of her surname.

19. Katrina Vanden Heuvel is editor of "The Nation" and
I've been in love with her forever.

You can read her at thenation.com. Her column is called Editor's Cut.

4. For a supposedly smart man, I'm surprised Will is in such denial.
The show hasn't played here yet.
And I second the props for Katrina; she's smart and articulate and needs way more air time than she typically gets.

7. So, I take it he has a spare planet in his back pocket?
What does he propose we do when this planet is "incompatible" with human existence? Breath money? Drink money? Eat money?

What part of we have one planet do these idiots not get?

13. But, but... how will oil companies break their record on profits?
I'm really starting to see where Vonnegut is coming from when he says we're terrible animals and the earth's immune system is fighting us off...

15. The End Justifies the Means
Edited on Sun Mar-26-06 11:47 AM by Crom
I fail to understand what any of us has to lose after seeing the U.N. reports this week. Doesn't the current culmination of the environmental crisis (if being told you have 100 years or so to live can be considered a crisis and not a catastrophe) merit extreme measures? If you were diagnosed with cancer and told you had 6 months to live, would you fear anything?

I don't really know about the rest of you, but I'm willing to do whatever it takes to stop this now. I'm sure most of you are moderates, as am I in every issue but this one. This one is about life and death. My son will grow up in a healthy environment if it hairlips every cow in Texas. The world must be made green by force if necessary. I'm not an eco-terrorist, just a man with a family who likes his winters cold and his air clean.

It cannot be avoided that this is an emotional issue for all of us. The means justify the ends. Global warming must be made the #1 issue for the democratic party, the American people and the world. Sorry for the melodrama but this one is keeping me awake at night.

17. Welcome, Crom.
This issue should be keeping you awake at night - it should be foremost on everyone's minds.

I know Hansen last week said we had ten years - I don't think we can wait that long. This has to be addressed now.

14. Isn't it obvious that Will's credentials as a climatologist are far
superior to 99% of the professionals? Relax, all of those melting glaciers don't mean that the temp is warming.

Quickly melt a bucket of ice in your bathroom with a towel stuffed under the door and tell me what you find out.
