Bush OUT as NCAA speaker; Walter Cronkite IN
NCAA celebrates its centennial

By Steve Wieberg, USA TODAY

The NCAA painted its 100th year in business in some bold strokes.

-snip-

More than 2,300 college athletics officials will gather in Indianapolis for the NCAA's annual convention, kicking off a centennial celebration. President Bush was invited to speak but declined, citing his approaching State of the Union address. Former CBS news anchor Walter Cronkite will appear instead, and Hall of Fame basketball coach John Wooden and former Indiana senator and Title IX sponsor Birch Bayh are among those being honored.

---------------

I just think it's funny that President Useless couldn't satisfy his obligation to give a speech to the NCAA on their 100th anniversary because he needs WEEKS to prepare for his (ultimately tragic) State of the Union address. Meanwhile, the honor of giving the keynote will go to one of the best progressive voices that we currently have in American journalism, and one of our greatest living television newsmen.

Way to go, Walter. I STILL trust you more than any current voice in TV news.

13. If Cronkite gave the SOTU, I'd actually BELIEVE it
But unfortunately Walter knows that Bush is full of it as much as you and I do.

8. He'll be bummed later that he won't be able to photo-op "Hook-em Horns!"
That he could have done had he spoke there to celebrate "his" Texas Longhorns winning the national championship the other day! Would have been one more pic we could have had to tie him into the "devil's horn" image collection we have stashed of he and his family and the rest of the cabal! :)
