Pics of Chicago protest..............dial-up warning
The chimp was in my hometown yesterday. I and a few other residents were there to greet the lyin' king.

here are some photos:

The car bearing down on me might have been a repug :scared:

These codepink women can get pretty wild. She had her flashing routine down pat.

I thought this sign was cool

Here's a very impressive puppet

Another crowd scene

This sign was fashioned by a sweet lady who attached it to a front baby harness. Very ingenious and well constructed

This guy lives 9 blocks away from me

That's me with my bush lied sign hangin' with the drumming and music entertainment committee

When we all left, here's what was left

As a side note, we only got to see the motorcade when they sped away in a 15 car convoy. They used a side exit from the hotel but we were strategically placed between there and the expressway he used to make his getaway. Police lights and sirens blaring, they closed down traffic for the escape. There was even a helicopter overhead. The chimp may not be as beloved as he thinks.

From an old Lou Reed song High in the City.
By the way that is the yellowdog.

It didn't even make our local news. We had a big fire to a landmark church here and that dominated the news.

28. That's just what I mean
you would think all of these people would merit a 30 second spot at least on the local news. It is like they don't care what the people feel and do not want other people to know how many are dissatisfied with this administration.....

13. The only difference I see........
between the two eras is now there is a broader age spectrum of the protesters. I think the commitment level is growing. I'm very impressed "the world can't wait" organization. I"m considering going to their weekly meeting today.

They distributed a well worded flyer yesterday. They are also organizing a protest for Jan. 31st.

50. You got it bro'
We're gonna' have to get in their faces this time just like we had to the last time. I see it as actually having started with Camp Casey and then the peace march on washington dc. This time we have us older experienced ones with the added benifit of the younger generation. It's a fix'en to bust wide open and when it does they'll be no stopping it. They'll be no getting the ponys back in the barn either. And the longer it takes to bust open the more determined we all will be. We take our country back.
Peace

16. Thank you Protestors. I have participated in several "Greet the pResident
" events and hhave never gotten within shouting distance to him. The description of him in a bubble is perfect. Makes you long for the days when a president could greet the American people by going out into crowds and actually talking to people outside of an oath sworn, carefully chosen, group of loyal supporters!

I don't mind his security, I object to his insulation. He works for us!! He has to answer to us, not the other way around. That is the most frustrating aspect for me right now, that we can't hold him accountable.

Damn, I'm just as pissed about that today as I was yesterday.

They are also very adept at organizing. Every time there's been a rally/protest they've been a big part of it. Apparently they're national. And you're right, these ladies (some of them grandmas) are wild!!

They have a great sense of humor about it, but they're dead serious. I love 'em.

with a "we heart W" sign standing on the other side and far down the street. They looked so lonely. I didn't have any more film in my disposable camera or I would've documented them.

They weren't around when I first got there. That's so typical of freepers, they show up late.

There will no doubt be a claim soon that they vastly outnumbered the protestors.

42. I agree......
It's like if it's not on TV it didn't happen. This idea of grass roots media may be the way to go. We have to use guerrilla marketing techniques to let the unaware populace become aware of what's going down.

Every little sign in a window, or flyer left on a windshield, or label stuck on a phone booth or gas pump leaves a message. We can't depend on our "media" anymore.

bush's speech in the news segment. Then they went for a few minutes to the local news where they clarified that there were at least 500 protesters. (This was not mentioned in the national news). I have noticed that our local Chicago NPR station, WBEZ, is much better than the network. They really do have some interesting local programs which lean to the left.

BTW thanks for going! I knew it was going on but had to work.

It's good to know it was on somewhere. I swear that the local newscasters here have time for their bullshit "happy talk" banter. They usually also have a feel-good human interest story. They should just STFU and report the news. The weather shouldn't take 8 minutes!!! Don't get me started!LOL

I haven't read the papers yet so we'll see what's up there.

Free Diane Wilson
Houston, TX, December 5, 2005: In protest against the wanton corruption of the Bush Administration and Congressman Tom DeLay; Halliburton and war profiteering, CODEPINK organized a peaceful protest against Cheney, DeLay, and their policies of war, repression, and injustice. CODEPINK Co-Founder Diane Wilson was about 15 to 20 feet away from the Cheney when she opened up her black velvet wrap to reveal a banner which read "Corporate Greed Kills-From Bhopal to Bagdad". Police dragged her out and she has is still being detained in jail. More...

It has been two months since Diane Wilson was jailed for her protest against Dick Cheney. She is still being held in a Texas jail and according to a recent letter from her, the conditions are very grim. If you would like to write to Diane you can send her a letter or card (she cannot receive anything else) to:
Diane Wilson
Victoria Co. Jail (CR# 65510)
101 No. Glass
Victoria, TX 77901
She can also receive books, but they must be sent by a distribution house like Amazon or ABEbooks. She is itching for some good books on meditation, women activists, or anything else related.

"Corporate greed and its administrative henchmen have many faces and deadly results--from the 10,000 gassed in a pesticide cloud in Bhopal, India to the tens of thousands Iraqi and American dead in an unjust war."
Diane Wilson.
