Grants Flow To Bush Allies On Social Issues
Grants Flow To Bush Allies On Social Issues
Federal Programs Direct At Least $157 Million

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/03/21/AR20060321

Under the auspices of its religion-based initiatives and other federal programs, the administration has funneled at least $157 million in grants to organizations run by political and ideological allies, according to federal grant documents and interviews.

An example is Heritage Community Services in Charleston, S.C. A decade ago, Heritage was a tiny organization with deeply conservative social philosophy but not much muscle to promote it. An offshoot of an antiabortion pregnancy crisis center, Heritage promoted abstinence education at the county fair, local schools and the local Navy base. The budget was $51,288.

By 2004, Heritage Community Services had become a major player in the booming business of abstinence education. Its budget passed $3 million -- much of it in federal grants distributed by Bush's Department of Health and Human Services -- supporting programs for students in middle school and high school in South Carolina, Georgia and Kentucky.

<snip>

Beneficiaries of more than $2 million each from the compassion fund include five organizations run by black and Hispanic leaders who endorsed Bush and Operation Blessing, a charity run by television evangelist Pat Robertson. It has received $23.5 million, which includes $1.5 million from the Compassion Capital Fund and $22 million in surplus dry milk from the Agriculture Department.

2. He has been doing this since he got in and where is Congress?
Bush has acted like the tax payers money is his own. We must have a Dem. House to get a hand on this or he will spend every cent we have if he has not done it already. He could not run one business how did any one think he could run a country. Spending other people money is Bush Land.

4. Yes, he has alread spent every cent we have...
or ever will have, or every cent our children's children will ever have. In the six years of the Bush's "Third Reich", his administration has stolen/spent--and get this--more money than all previous Presidential administrations COMBINED! In six years they've increased the debt more than the sum total amount of debt for our whole history. That is, Six Years Debt is greater than the previous Two Hundred Twenty Four (224) years! He truly is a record breaking kind of guy. Should we be surprised, after all he managed to a couple of oil companies despite massive financial gifts ("investments") by his family's Saudi Oil pals.

Why does the debt matter to the average fellow?
http://members.tripod.com/zzpat/graphs.htm">"Someone has to pay more taxes to finance all the debt conservatives give us with their tax cuts. Mr. Reagan gave us more debt than all previous president combined and therefore the largest future tax increase of all previous presidents combined."

Of course, little Georgie Porgie stuck his middle finger in the pie and showed us that old Ronnie really was a conservative (relatively speaking). We'll all be going blind (paying) for what Georgie's been doing with our money (considering that he's the one doing it, he's the one who ought to be going blind!)!
