So I got to thinking

I got to thinking last night.

Was a quiet night, daughter had been put to sleep. I was playing EVE Online and wife was watching something on ABC, I think it was Super Nanny or whoever she is. Anyway this commercial came on for Extreme Home Makerover where they are going to be "rebuilding communities" that were devistated by Katrina.

Then it hit me, all the pictures we still see of the Gulf Region, New Orleans still pretty much f'd up. I'm supposed to believe that we are rebuilding Iraq's infrastructure (all these schools and hospitals I hear about), when we can't even get things home fixed up. To where it takes a freaking "reality" show to step in for some lucky communities / families.

The only reason things are getting done (and painfully slowly at that) is that private citizens are donating and volunteering.

2. excellent point - let alone try to do it with bullets and armaments

going off around you destroying faster than building or repairing is possible or financially plausible.
