A rapier vs. a nail-studded 2x4
Why is it that most debates between liberals and neo-con enablers reveal this dichotomy?

Case in point... The Boston Legal message boards.

*******

The Neo-Con enabler:

"Free speech is only for those who oppose our President. For those of us who support and show reasons why forget it. We're just uniformed, unitelligent right wing nut jobs. We don't care about the have nots. We only care about ourselves. Hogwash!! I care more about people than I probably should. How I show it is how I live my life and it's not protesting everything our country stands for. We went through this in the 60's and that led to millions of people being murdered in Southeast Asia. I believe it's time to make a stand against those who kill innocents."

Mythsaje:

Last I checked, our country stood for equality, justice, and democracy. Well, it USED to, at least.

It didn't stand for rendition, torture, pre-emptive wars (against folks that weren't even a threat, pretty much nullifying the whole pre-emptive concept) and shouting down everyone who disagrees with you.

What would Jefferson or Madison do?

How people can control all three branches of government AND most of the media, and STILL squeal that THEY are being silenced never ceases to amaze. When was the last time you heard one of US suggest that you all belonged in a detention camp, or should be hanged for being traitors?

Someone's trying to suppress someone else's free speech. But it sure as heck isn't us.

We reserve the right to mock you, but we aren't trying to silence you. And there's the difference between us.

Get it yet?

2. No, they don't get it.
Two reasons that I can think of:

1. Fear. (Baptist preachers are scary!)
2. Lead paint chips for afternoon snacks.

3. The Neo-Con enabler made a couple of "interesting" statements.
"I care more about people than I probably should."
So he believes there's some kind of "limit" on how much we should care about people?

"How I show it is how I live my life and it's not protesting everything our country stands for."
Mythsaje, I fully agree with your assessment of what America stands for. I have to wonder what his interpretation is. Corporate Profits?

"I believe it's time to make a stand against those who kill innocents."
I have to agree with him here. How many innocents died in Shock and Awe? How many died because of US military actions? How many innocents died in Abu Grahaib and Gitmo? If we want to "make a stand against those who kill innocents," we should start at home.

4. So the Antiwar PROTESTERS killed those millions in Vietnam?
RIIIIIIIGHT!

How completely mindfucked does someone have to be
to believe such crap? Day really IS night to these fools.

Hopeless, incurable Koolaid addict.

5. Yup...
And I reserve the right to mock.

People like this SHOULD feel free to speak. But they shouldn't feel immune to the consequences.

6. I actually think you're wrong
Only about this part of your post. The Neo-Con enabler is wrong and, in fact, concludes his statement with standard Domino Theory rhetoric.

"Last I checked, our country stood for equality, justice, and democracy. Well, it USED to, at least.
It didn't stand for rendition, torture, pre-emptive wars (against folks that weren't even a threat, pretty much nullifying the whole pre-emptive concept) and shouting down everyone who disagrees with you.

I'm not sure when America stood for those rights. Fortunately, I haven't been much oppressed but then I've been a good little State-supporter in my life.

Of course, you realize the * WH has been claiming the Reverse Domino Theory in Iraq, if we help stand-up a Demockery other dominos of Demockery will rise up in Syria, Iran, ummm... Libya...

7. I think there's been a big disconnect between the IDEALS
of America and the actual application of those ideals.

9. Up is down as usual
While we are out trying to save everything our country stands for they claim that we are doing the opposite. I wonder what it will take for them to see the truth. What was it the guy on Olberman said the other night? "The Administration treats the Constitution as some legal technicality instead of the thing were trying to fight to protect."

10. Neotrog needs therapy.
"How I show it is how I live my life and it's not protesting everything our country stands for. We went through this in the 60's and that led to millions of people being murdered in Southeast Asia. I believe it's time to make a stand against those who kill innocents."

Protesting didn't lead to millions of people being murdered in Southeast Asia. Just so everyone understands, this moran is blaming PROTESTING on the deaths of natives during the Vietnam war! PROTESTING. Neotrog must not understand the foundations of our country. Notice how trog states that our country stands for something, but doesn't clarify what that is. This is why neotrog lashes out violently (like a dumb animal) at dissent, simple minds are confused by simple tricks.
