It's been a year since the worst of the Schiavo dust up
Edited on Tue Mar-14-06 10:07 AM by LostinVA
No real comments except that... and except how isn't it amazing how this whole "right to life" thing has been kept going by the GOP... oh wait... it hasn't? You mean it was all only political grandstanding that went against what the huge majority of Americans thought? Really?????

1. My favorite "conservative" schiavo moment
About a week before Teri died, American Family Radio had a story on their "news" break which stated new information "may" have been uncovered which "may" indicate that Michael Schiavo abused his wife. Hey, with their audience they can run with shit like that.

Kinda hard to pick a favorite "conservative" moment from that sideshow.

4. "Yes but you know Sean there are still questions about what happened
that night"

I don't remember her name but she was on Hannity's radio show right after Terri Schiavo was finally allowed to pass (as she wanted). The female attorney had been (this is from memory) the Schiavo family lawyer at one point but no longer was.

At the end of the interview in which she could offer no evidence of any sort of her claims Hannity asked her about what happened THAT NIGHT at the Schiavo house. Her answer was always the same "Well Sean we don't know for certain there are lots of questions about what happened"

I was totally unaware of the Schiavo case until that afternoon that they judge ordered the tube pulled. Within 2 hours I had all the info I needed (there was a great lawyer's site that summed up the whole trial history) and it ended just like everyone knew it would.

It was amazing to see a RW created issue and manipulated set of information unfold right out in the open. I really think that that was the beginning of the end of the Republican BS machine. Even Hannity had to stop taking calls from listeners who had the whole thing play out right in front of them. He was fighting off calls all over the place for days and finally he moved on to some other BS.

7. Schiavos' parents BOOK hits stores March 28........

Terri Schiavo's parents and siblings repeat old charges against Michael Schiavo, but add personal details of a painful 15 years.

By CURTIS KRUEGER and ANITA KUMAR

******still looking for the almighty $$$ here..their cash cow is gone.pure and simple.....

...................snip

Now, for the first time, members of the Schindler family have shared their pain in a book, which is set to hit stores March 28.

In A Life That Matters: The Legacy of Terri Schiavo - A Lesson for Us All , family members once again accuse Terri's husband Michael of abusing her, and blast judges for overlooking evidence that might have kept her alive.

But it also tells the story of a family in a nightmare, as the Schindlers cope first with the collapse of Terri, who suffered severe brain damage after her heart stopped mysteriously in 1990, and then with the possibility of losing her altogether.

The book was written by Terri's parents, Mary and Bob Schindler, as well as Terri's brother, Bobby, and sister, Suzanne Schindler Vitadamo, with help from a professional author.

snip

"To our amazement, people came up to ask for our autographs, as if we were celebrities," Schiavo's mother wrote, describing memorial services after her daughter's death.

She added in a footnote: "But all we did was fight for our daughter's life. Why does that make us celebrities?"

snip

The book portrays Michael Schiavo, who said Terri would have wanted her feeding tube removed in such a condition, as controlling, mercurial and violent.

Bobby says Michael once pushed him on a couch "and had me with his hand around my throat."

Suzanne says, "I would see bruises on Terri and she would always brush them off as horseplay."

9. Why doesn't he sue them for libel, defamation of character, etc.
You aren't allowed to just say stuff like that about people.

They truly make me sick. The iota of sympathy and compassion I had for them once is long gone.

13. I'm not buying this at all.
"To our amazement, people came up to ask for our autographs, as if we were celebrities," Schiavo's mother wrote, describing memorial services after her daughter's death.

I'm sure they were in a lot of pain because of their daughter's condition, but I think they enjoyed the famewhoring, too.

11. Schiavo judge to speak on end of life
Remember this Judge?...the right wing wackos threatened his life and he was under constant armed guard:......

Schiavo judge to speak on end of life

George Greer will appear at Tiger Bay and a symposium in May.

By CHRIS TISCH, Times Staff Writer
Published March 14, 2006

Pinellas Circuit Judge George Greer, whose decisions in the Terri Schiavo case made him a hero to some and a foe to others, will speak at the Suncoast Tiger Bay Club today and will appear at a symposium about end-of-life issues this spring.

Greer said Monday that he may speak about end-of-life and separation of powers issues at the Tiger Bay Club meeting today, but will not discuss the Schiavo case specifically.

On May 1, he will appear on a panel at the University of Pennsylvania's Center for Bioethics Symposium, which is titled "The Legacy of the Terri Schiavo Case: Why Is it So Hard to Die in America."

Michael Schiavo also will appear at the symposium, though he will speak the day before Greer.

14. The Terri Schiavo Freeper Jesus-Freak Show, I called it.
Edited on Tue Mar-14-06 11:02 AM by rocknation
The Dems were smart enough to realize that their silence would be golden, and American's answer to the Taliban sent in the clowns. The Repubs couldn't repudiate the circus going on outside Terri's hospice, the media had to focus on it because they couldn't focus on the Dems, the nation's religious moderates were mortified, and the Bush Empire has yet to recover. I guess it figures that it would take a warmed-over corpse to hit them where it really hurts. Terri, Cindy, and Katrina: OUR trifecta!

16. This is the sound of one hand arguing
That was what I took out of that. The Republicans tried to create a debate with no one on the other side. As I posted above it was a clear presentation of how they manipulate information and their loyal followers.

17. and Sandra Day O'Conner is speaking our against Repugs (DeLay) who
have threatened the courts.

Nina Totenberg's report is at: http://tinyurl.com/lt5ls

Dictatorship is the danger

A Reagan-appointed supreme court justice voices her fears over attacks on US democracy

Jonathan Raban
Monday March 13, 2006
The Guardian

.........

Equally surprising is that O'Connor's speech to an audience of lawyers at Georgetown University was attended by just one reporter, the diligent legal correspondent for National Public Radio, Nina Totenberg. No transcript or recording of the speech has been made available, so we have only Totenberg's notes to go on. But - assuming they are accurate - the notes are political dynamite.

O'Connor's voice was "dripping with sarcasm", according to Totenberg, as she "took aim at former House GOP leader Tom DeLay. She didn't name him, but she quoted his attacks on the courts at a meeting of the conservative Christian group Justice Sunday last year when DeLay took out after the courts for rulings on abortions, prayer and the Terri Schiavo case.

"It gets worse, she said, noting that death threats against judges are increasing. It doesn't help, she said, when a high-profile senator suggests there may be a connection between violence against judges and decisions that the senator disagrees with."

Then she spoke the D-word. "I, said O'Connor, am against judicial reforms driven by nakedly partisan reasoning. Pointing to the experiences of developing countries and former communist countries where interference with an independent judiciary has allowed dictatorship to flourish, O'Connor said we must be ever-vigilant against those who would strong-arm the judiciary into adopting their preferred policies. It takes a lot of degeneration before a country falls into dictatorship, she said, but we should avoid these ends by avoiding these beginnings."
