Just Rec'd A Call From The Dems Asking For Money
Wanted $100.00

My response: Where are the dems who support Feingold? Not another dime until the dems acquire a spine.

2. I tell them I'm giving directly to candidates
who have done the work we elected them to do. Not giving to the party at this time.

4. Goody goody...another denying support post.
I said to expect it today, even though our Democrats had good air time yesterday, spoke out today.

The more they speak out the more post there are saying someone is not going to donate.

Then damn it, just don't donate.

5. Aside from people having a right to their opinion,
what are you objecting to?

And why in the world are we in the defensive position of withholding funds from the very people we'd like to support? Man, it would be so good to throw money at the kind of work we saw today on the Senate floor.

These posts that batter Democrats for expecting Democrats to do their job are worse than useless. We need to get on another footing altogether. Like, you respect the law and my vote and I will support you.

How hard is that to understand?

7. Hey, let's bash them all.
Don't you think? While we are at it? Let's name them off and shoot them down one by one.

Sure this is my country, my party, and I can bash every single Dem I want, cause it is America.

9. All over TV yesterday.
They were speaking all over the country today.. Did the media tell you about that? Did you know Harry Reid got cut off by CNN when he gave the critique of Bush's idiotic speech today.

Did you know Dean and several others delivered powerful speeches to the CWA union today?

Yes, you must have missed it.

But this is America, bash away.

10. One Day Does Not 5+ Years Make
And yes the good doctor does regularly speak out and I do appreciate it. But he is not in the congress and that's where the votes get counted. So when the speaking out becomes a trend I'll support it with cash, but aside from individual candidates, I have no intention on buying a pig in a poke until they bring home the bacon. They can start by standing with Feingold.

11. Then don't donate.
Edited on Mon Mar-13-06 07:02 PM by madfloridian
You are right to withhold support.

On edit: I guess you are aware that the DNC under Dean has no power over congress at all. He has no control over what they support, even though he is trying to form a message.

So I guess you need to withhold support until he gets through herding all the congressional cats who did not want him there in the first place.

13. Correct.
I feel like the DNC right now is trying to help us as people by changing things.

I fail to understand why so many here keep saying to withhold support.

It is your right.

14. Your Point Did Give Me A Thought
It would be interesting if the DNC had a directed donation program, where you could state how you wanted your donation used.

23. I donate to the DNC everytime that another Dem takes a smack at
Chairman Dean or when I receive an e-mail, whichever comes first. I no longer donate to the DCCC or the DSCC and that is because I want to know who my money is supporting and also because we have a lot of local candidates running for offices: county commission(3), sheriff, judges(4) and we also have a candidate, Terry Stulce, trying to unseat Zach Wamp in the 3rd Congressional District. Then there's DFA, DFT and DFC (Democracy for Chattanooga) that need funding, too. Plus backing a candidate who some are trying to be force out of the Senate race here because Harold Ford, Jr. has been deemed to be the only candidate worthy of consideration.

Frustration seems to be what brings this about. I find it more helpful to look at individual candidates and causes while still supporting the DNC, but that's just me.:hi:

24. That isn't what was said.
A person can invest their time and money in specific candidates who represent their interests. This does not require that one invests in every candidate or group that calls or writes. This is part of being wise with our resources. It is not being anti-democratic candidates.

25. Surely you are aware of what you are advocating.
And surely all the others here are aware of what is going on. And all the people at the DNC blog loudly yelling at the Democrats surely know what they are doing.

I don't think what you are doing will work in the long run, but it is sending a message to the Democrats who want the leaders of the party to run things that you agree with them.

We have a chance with Dean as chairman of the DNC to make place for us back in the party structure.

But when you withhold support from the man who was elected by people mostly outside of DC...then you are saying it is not important to build the parties in the 50 states.

But everyone has a choice of what to do. Our Democrats were so good on the Sunday shows yesterday, Feingold, Dean, Edwards, Obama, and I believe Levin, and someone was on Fox as well. Sure enough, here comes a rash of withholding support posts. I felt vindicated.

26. What I advocate
is that people think for themselves. Hence, when I read the OP, I think it is good the person is thinking for him/herself. That does not mean that I think the same.

I advocate democrats at the grass roots level thinking for themselves, and acting on their beliefs. I like Howard Dean just fine. One of the essays on my blog compares him to Malcolm X. To the extent that Dr. Dean reminds me of Malcolm, I'll be investing my funds in his work.

Today I received three letters from Senator Clinton in the mail. Three. And they all were asking for money. Now, I'm from NY State. I've met Senator Clinton twice, and I like her. But she is supporting the war in Iraq. So, while I will vote for her in November, I cannot in good conscience donate one penny, nor one minute of my time, supporting her at this time. I will write a letter, make two copies, and send them in the three envelopes, explaining my position.

The money I would have sent her will go to the insurgent candidate opposing Senator Leiberman in his primary contest. Other time and money will go for other democratic candidates that represent the values I want. To pretend that has anything to do with some conspiracy to withhold money from those on the talk shows is silly.

16. Support causes. Not politicians.
There are plenty of them out there. Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, Oxfam, ACLU, etc. People who actually do something for people rather than feather their own nests and dispense platitudes to the gullible.

17. The DCC called me a few weeks ago,
and I told them I would only give to individual candidates as their record was too weak. I asked to be taken off the list. I will only give to individuals I can fully stand behind.

DLC: NO
DNC: NO (and I like Dean)

Lamonte: YES
Lieberman: NO WAY
Dodd: Maybe
Feingold: YES
Gore: Probably
My local Dems: Mostly yes

Republicans: None.

22. Sorry, I meant the DCCC
Democratic Congerssional Campaign Committee

They're a centrist fundraising group and in other circumstances might not be so bad. But in today's climate, I think we need to elect anyone who will take a stand. My small donations will go to individuals who can make a difference.
