Two republican hacks on tonight's Oscars:
George Will said: Hollywood is crowing about having produced a bunch of ground breaking, edgy movies. Hogwash. Calling Joe McCarthy out is not daring, attacking oil companies, not daring. Its drivel.

The other repug (din't recognize, didn't catch his name) said: Hollywood is producing movies on topic Americans have no interest in. (When asked which one he thought should win, he started to say he'd not seen any of them but then caught himself. Odd. Did he see one and not want to admit it? Said he had no topic and middle America will not see any of these movies. He seemed to be saying: Americans don't want to think and we shouldn't make them.

Seems its one or the other and I thought it instructive on how the Republicans get away with attacking anything they identify as liberal or Democratic (scatter gun, go after it on all fronts, something is likely to resonate) and don't get stuck with the "no uniform message" moniker Dems get stuck with.

For the first time in my memory all 5 movies nominated for best picture are good movies and "art" in the sense they are thought provoking. Capote, overlooked with all the other good flicks, examines the debate turned slander: "did Capote fall in love with Perry?" Munich examines the war on terror. They ARE hard questions. Crash shows how if we pay attention, we all learn the lessons we need to learn.

4. Republicans love to attack Hollywood, but
They seem to love Hollywood Republicans - Ronald Reagan, Arnold S, Sonny Bono, Clint Eastwood, etc.

And, none of the above are exactly paragons of morality for the party of moral values.

9. He *was* a Republican
When he ran for mayor of his little town in California, he was a Republican... or at least I'm pretty sure he was.

However, since that time, he reportedly became disillusioned with the party & has since become independent.

13. This quote will help
In a Sunday newspaper insert called "USA Weekend" last year, Eastwood said in an interview, "I never thought of myself as a conservative, but I am no extreme lefist either."

Clearly, he is a person who thinks for himself. :-)

The question:

Is the liberal Hollywood establishment pushing these liberal movies?

Sounds like right wing conspiracy theories to me.

14. The new defense is the tops in debate skills, isn't it?
"Americans aren't interested" --That seems to be the new answer to everything these days. Does The Base really take that as an instruction not to be interested? And, why does the "liberal media" accept that as an answer to anything?
