The book everyone must read is: FOOLED AGAIN
by Mark Crispin Miller.

it is absolutely heartwrenching

it's all you knew to be true and far more.

and because he knocks the media no one is letting them on their shows to discuss his book. (he was on mike malloy's show i think this past thursday when he was subbing for randi)

i'm ordering copies of this book and will be sending them to: arlen specter, patrick leahy, dick durbin, kennedy, feingold, and a couple others. (i'm making my list & checking it twice)

1. What is THE best book to give to my senator?
My US senator is a neighbor and since he will be home for awhile recuperating from surgery, I'd like to give him something provocative that he will actually read. He's a good guy with a great sense of humor.

3. e clay is said to be having surgery (for a tumor in his lung, i think)this
Edited on Sun Jan-01-06 08:23 AM by flordehinojos
january...he, of course, is not a senator, so you couldn't possibly be talking about e. clay shaw--a die hard republican, in tandem with the bushits, who, once upon a time had a beautiful priest (one of the few really and truly beautiful priests) reprimanded by the archbishop, simply because, the priest addressed some misguided republican policy from the pulpit.

no. of course, your neighbor, friend and senator could not be e. clay shaw...

edited to add: because of Socates' unwavering commitment to truth, and because

"For the rest of his life, Socrates devoted himself to free-wheeling discussion with the aristocratic young citizens of Athens, insistently questioning their unwarranted confidence in the truth of popular opinions, ..."

one book i believe every current senator and representative should read is:

Dialogues of Plato it has plenty in it to teach our current politicians who should learn really to honor truth and not the current asshole sitting in the white house.

6. is your neighbor chris dodd?
if you get him this book i'll save myself the price of the book and postage. i was going to send a copy of it to him since he is the ranking minority member on the u.s. senate committee on rules and administration which deals with "contested elections" according to wikipedia.

let me know if it's him and you'll get him this book--of course, even if we both got it for him i'm sure he could let someone else borrow it to read.

it'll make you wild,
it'll make you realize that something has to be done about this crap right now or we'll lose our democracy!

it's a great book with a very real sense of urgency.

2. I brought yesterday Jawbreaker by Gary Berntsen
while Gary is not a fan of Clinton, he does attack the "7th floor" at the CIA and General Franks over the handling of bin Laden and Al-Qaeda.

5. I'm waiting for my copy to arrive.
I'm really looking forward to reading it. I heard him on Malloy's show. He's a good, interesting, and knowledgeable speaker. He really should be on more shows. I'm glad to hear the book is a good read. I like your idea of distributing it, too.

Happy New Year to all at DU!

7. i've been making a list of who should get a copy of this
i'm going to send one to louise slaughter and alcee hastings (they are both on the house rules committee which involves elections. i can't decide which republican on that committee to send it to. i'm not familiar with any of them.

i also want chris dodd to get a copy, durbin, feingold & arlen specter along with susan collins, lincoln chafee & possibly carl levin.

if they would read this then they possibly will "get it" and figure out a way to change our system.

8. OK, I DID IT! I just ordered 10 copies of the book!
i figure i should have them in the mail around 1/15 to some of our reps--with a nice little card, imploring them to read the book and SAVE OUR DEMOCRACY!

10. i just wrote mike malloy and thanked him
for having mark crispin miller on last week

that was the first i heard of this book. (or if i did hear about it back in october i forgot)

i told him it was hard to put down--sad & depressing & enough to make your blood boil--but it expresses an urgency that we've got to do SOMETHING about these elections & voting machines or we are so unbelievably screwed we might as all well break away from the "united states" and form our own country.

"we should never think of separation but for repeated and enormous violations" thomas jefferson 1799.

well, we're thinking.

11. Went to see him speak
At a booksigning a few weeks ago. His concerns about the coming theocracy are ones I've had as well: I grew up in an area run by the sort of people who now have the president's ear and am well-acquainted with how &*%#ing crazy they are.
