"For What It's Worth" by Buffalo Springfield and *dial-up warning*
For What It's Worth
Buffalo Springfield

There's something happening here
What it is ain't exactly clear
There's a man with a gun over there
Telling me I got to beware

http://www.smh.com.au/ffximage/2006/02/13/cheneyrifle_wideweb__470x407,0.jpg

I think it's time we stop, children, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down

There's battle lines being drawn
Nobody's right if everybody's wrong
Young people speaking their minds
Getting so much resistance from behind

I think it's time we stop, hey, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down

What a field-day for the heat
A thousand people in the street
Singing songs and carrying signs
Mostly say, hooray for our side

It's time we stop, hey, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down

Paranoia strikes deep
Into your life it will creep
It starts when you're always afraid
You step out of line, the man come and take you away

We better stop, hey, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down
Stop, hey, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down
Stop, now, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down
Stop, children, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down

This song has run through my mind frequently in the last 3 years. Great photo montage Catch! Any way to turn it into a video clip with Buffalo Springfield as the sound track? SG

17. I have that song on my computer
And play it now and again when I get to thinking of the "good old days".
But it seems that they are back and the words are just as relevant now as they were then, or even more so.

"Goodnight Saigon"

Billy Joel

We met as soul mates
On Parris Island...
We left as inmates
From an asylum.
And we were sharp
As sharp as knives....
And we were so gung ho
To lay down our lives.
We came in spastic
Like tameless horses....
We left in plastic
As numbered corpses.
And we learned fast
To travel light...
Our arms were heavy
But our bellies were tight.
We had no home front
We had no soft soap....
They sent us Playboy
They gave us Bob Hope.
We dug in deep
And shot on sight....
And prayed to Jesus Christ
With all our might.
We had no cameras
To shoot the landscape...
We passed the hash pipe
And played our Doors tapes.
And it was dark
So dark at night....
And we held on to each other
Like brother to brother....
We promised our mothers we'd write

And we would all go down together....
We said we'd all go down together.

Remember Charlie
Remember Baker...
They left their childhood
On every acre.
And who was wrong?
And who was right?
It didn't matter in the thick of the fight!
We held the day
In the palm
Of our hand
They ruled the night
And the night
Seemed to last as long as six weeks
On Parris Island.
We held the coastline
They held the highlands...
And they were sharp
As sharp as knives...
They heard the hum of our motors
They counted the rotors...
And waited for us to arrive.

And we would all go down together
We said we'd all go down together
Yes we would all go down together http://www.jacquedee63.com/alittlehistory.html
