4. They'll get 2/3
How it looks, it looks like both sides of the aisles are pissed at Bush at making the port deal and they'll do everything possible to stop it.

5. This is why we (Dems) can't do anything to stop the madness
other than symbolic gestures (which are effective and they should be using them, although at this point they've missed the good opportunities). It also takes a super-majority to repeal a law, which is why we won't be able to fix this mess even if we take the House and Senate this fall.

11. Two-thirds? Oh, off subject a bit, but two-thirds is "supposedly" what
was given to FEMA of the $100 million given to the US to help with the FEMA disaster. This two-thirds was to help 100,000 families. The other one-third was given to the local areas to rebuild the schools, libraries, public buildings.

It appears that the Bush family has had a lot of dealings with UAE. Boy that is SHOCKING!:toast:

Wonder where all that money has gone??? Also, wonder if that $100 million helped them get that deal for the ports? Hmmmmm Well, the link below does tell of them donating $1 million for the Bush Library.

Also, they are major arm dealers for the U.S. and Europe.

Two-thirds vote could impeach Bush as well right? So why are they wasting their time and more of our money?

This may be just one piece of the puzzle of "following the money . . . "

in accordance with Article I, Section 7 of the US Constitution:

Section 7. All bills for raising revenue shall originate in the House of Representatives; but the Senate may propose or concur with amendments as on other Bills.

Every bill which shall have passed the House of Representatives and the Senate, shall, before it become a law, be presented to the President of the United States; if he approve he shall sign it, but if not he shall return it, with his objections to that House in which it shall have originated, who shall enter the objections at large on their journal, and proceed to reconsider it. If after such reconsideration two thirds of that House shall agree to pass the bill, it shall be sent, together with the objections, to the other House, by which it shall likewise be reconsidered, and if approved by two thirds of that House, it shall become a law. But in all such cases the votes of both Houses shall be determined by yeas and nays, and the names of the persons voting for and against the bill shall be entered on the journal of each House respectively. If any bill shall not be returned by the President within ten days (Sundays excepted) after it shall have been presented to him, the same shall be a law, in like manner as if he had signed it, unless the Congress by their adjournment prevent its return, in which case it shall not be a law.

Every order, resolution, or vote to which the concurrence of the Senate and House of Representatives may be necessary (except on a question of adjournment) shall be presented to the President of the United States; and before the same shall take effect, shall be approved by him, or being disapproved by him, shall be repassed by two thirds of the Senate and House of Representatives, according to the rules and limitations prescribed in the case of a bill.

Two-thirds concurrance of the House and Senate are required to override a presidential veto.

edit for clarification.

6. Per Bush - no - Bush issues a "signing memo" that says he will not obey

law and the law will go away. This was Supreme Court Justice Alito's idea - and now Alito is on the Supreme Court.

Damn glad we have another great legal mind on the Court to join Scalia and his "original intent" via random 18th century writings by random people as interpreted by Scalia that gets Scalia to vote for the conservative policy at the bar.

9. I saw a car I liked the other day, but I cannot afford it...but perhaps I
can issue a memo and then take it.

Even the most ignorant of folks can see through that crappola. I hope he DOES go ahead and do exactly that. His turd of a decision just strated rolling downhill, this just makes it pick up speed.

7. I am sure that KKKarl is on Capital Hill twisting arms before it
gets that far.
And the case that is does, he will use what ever means necessary to make sure the veto does not get overturned.

So much for Checks and Balance in a democracy. So much for democracy

8. KKKarl has probably already sent the message....
That any Republican who votes to overturn, had better not ride in small planes and better have protection 24/7.

10. Where Did You Go To School And When
Edited on Fri Feb-24-06 10:28 AM by ThomWV
I do not ask that question with disrespect, I really am interested in where and when you went to school, let us say from your 4th year to your 9th year. I would have expected that in most districts the Constitution and mechanisms of Government would have been well covered over that period. Apparently they were not where you were schooled and I am interested in what part of the country omitted that information and when they were out of the habit of teaching it.
