Actor Richard Dreyfuss call for Bush impeachment!
Edited on Fri Feb-17-06 10:23 AM by timber84
I always liked him.

Richard Dreyfuss, the actor who starred in movies ranging from "Jaws" to "Mr. Holland's Opus," told an audience in Washington, D.C., on Thursday that "there are causes worth fighting for," and one of those is the impeachment of President George W. Bush.

"There are causes worth fighting for even if you know that you will lose," Dreyfuss said during a speech at the National Press Club. "Unless you are willing to accept torture as part of a normal American political lexicon, unless you are willing to accept that leaving the Geneva Convention is fine and dandy, if you accept the expansion of wiretapping as business as usual, the only way to express this now is to embrace the difficult and perhaps embarrassing process of impeachment

It was a long speech. Perhaps he wanted more time to speak and didn't care about the usual Q&A at the end.

36. The CSPAN feed only showed his girlfriend and the Press Club President.
They didn't pan the audience and there was no Q&A time. CSPAN cut away right after the president gaveled the club out of session.

Thought the picture was so powerful in it's simplicity.

5. I just watched his speech.
It was measured, thoughtful, insightful and thought proking. In short, it was a wonderful speech that examined the media's complicit role in the formulation of American foreign policy, and how we, as Americans are too quick to rush to judgement and react without time for reflection.

It is a must see.

Good one.

We need more people like Dreyfus, people who are known to the common man, to call for impeachment. Saying that Bush is a bad man is good but it doesn't go far enough. This is the way to get the ball rolling.

But what I remember is urging you to do the work yourself. And wondering why, if you weren't a troll, you seemed so disinclined to invest the fifteen minutes it would've taken to debunk the thing by doing a few quick Google searches. I'd also read several obvious trolling messages from freepers that week, posting almost the identical email. So my hackles were up, I suppose. But here you are, still around with a donor star next to your name. Sorry I was mean. I am sometimes.

and sad it makes DUers look when we get all excited because some washed-up movie actor agrees with us. I wasn't critcizing Dreyfuss as much as I was amused (and depressed) by the notion that his calling for Bush's impeachment is somehow a big deal. Apparently such snarkiness is now a thought crime. Oh well.

65. awww, don't be depressed
Sometimes, in an effort to achieve snark, we exceed our objective and veer into contempt. It's just one of the occupational hazards.

For instance, no one here made the absurd claim or even implied this was a "pivotal moment in American politics." You invented that in order to justify your snark.

Since you keep emphasizing the has-been nature of RDreyfuss's celebrity, maybe this thread topic would be more acceptable to you if the person who had spoken out was someone currently with more marquee value? Me, I'll take what I can get. Criticism of Bush has been notably lacking for several years now in our public discourse. Anyone who uses whatever platform they have, no matter how rickety, is going to get my appreciation, not contempt.

Randi Rhodes said yesterday, If you accept warrantless wire taps & bank record & library searches, YOU'RE NOT AN AMERICAN!
