And F is for Fascist. I can't think of any better description for the Neocon ideology this administration and the republican leadership are forcing onto the American people, like it or not. It's definitely the rule of an elite minority (them) over the ignorant majority (us) for our "own good". They have absolutely no respect or use for liberal democracy, wiping their asses with the Constitution at every opportunity, and will continue to misuse the resources and power of the government that they've hijacked to deepen and strengthen their rule of us. The latest revelations of warrantless wiretaps of American citizens only raises the question: What else have they been doing that we don't know about? They've already shown a willingness to misuse law enforcement resources against political opponents: remember Tom DeLay siccing Homeland Security on those Texas Democrats after they'd fled to Oklahoma to deny Tom Craddick a quorum for the redistricting bill? They don't need concentration camps (at least not yet), there are plenty of ways short of that to intimidate and neutralize opposition on the way to totalitarianism.
I don't expect to hear the F-word in the mainstream media in the near term, if ever. But I don't think it's shrill to raise the issue here and in the progressive blogs. We now have a dictator in all but name, who openly admits to usurping our constitutional rights at his whim and flouts his disrespect of the rule of law with impunity, supported by his party and its noise machine and relatively unopposed by a timid media. He's on record as saying that it would be a lot easier for him to do the things he wants to do in a dictatorship, with him as the dictator. And people thought he was joking? Given that, what kind of system do you think he wants to establish in our country? And what kind of life do you think people like us can expect to have then?
