My favorite line is "The people shouldn't fear their government, the government should fear their people."

It's about time we get a movie with these kinds of themes. The cool part is that John Hurt, the actor that played Winston Smith in "1984", plays the evil big brother type character in this "V is for Vendetta" flick. I can't wait!

1. There's a great article about "V for Vendetta"...
... in the February issue of "Vanity Fair." Michael Wolff dedicated his entire piece to the film and its relevance to current times. He calls the film "exhilerating and spectacular," and likens it to a Guy Fawkes tale of the future, a film about citizens fighting an America out of control, in chaos and submitting to totalitarian rule.

It sounds fantastic.

4. or the govt could react like Brecht said the East German govt reacted
to the uprising of 1953

The Secretary of the Writers' Union
Had leaflets distributed in the Stalinallee
In which it was said that the people
Had lost the confidence of the government
And (the government) could win it back only
By redoubled efforts.

In that case,
Would it not be simpler
If the government
Dissolved the people
And elected another?

5. you think this movie will be creepy?
Seriously, play State of Emergency For PS2
behind all the looting and fighting and pure fun violence, look at the message in that game.
Corporations had taken over all of the government and were controlling all media outlets.

All of america was now one big corporation, the first level is a mall- Full of stores of overpriced items from the same companies over and over, all having to be approved.
Then a downtown area, the local resistance forced to protest in only a small area (Free Speech zone?) and even then the police harrass and eventually attack the protesters in force (you step in)
next is an uptown section full of the richer people in life, you are helping out the resistance there, slowly working your way up.

Then you get to the final stage, the capital city which looks strikingly like a compact DC.
People from the government want out due to the corruption and attrocities they helped cause. Giant Screen broadcast propoganda constantly as you run around.

All the time you play there is a ticker at the bottom of the screen, reporting what hell you cause and what's going on. Fun things like "Scientists explain why pollution is Good for the environment, tonight at 8" and "in other news, the Last free range tree in the US cut down today, statue errected in commemoration"
Stories of Kids being given medals for turning in their parents (1984ish)
Enemy gang The Skins (hmmm, skinheads, right wing psychos?)

Really, just go out and play the game. I swear what I say can NOT give justice to the message that this game holds, a look at the future.

...And you get to kill stuff with AK47s, bazookas, blow up buildings, trash store fronts. All that fun stuff you kind of wish you could do in real life.

6. Welcome to DU! I think I heard of that video game - and it creeps
me out hearing the description you have. It really makes me wonder about a lot of things, primarily the global elite telegraphing their plans for America. You know, just because they are that sick.
