GOP Now Moving Closer To Rationalizing SUMMARY EXECUTION
Edited on Sun Feb-05-06 12:32 PM by cryingshame
The GOP now accepts that the Unitary Executive can:

Withhold any and all information from Congress
Ignore any law and the Constitution
Arrest and hold anyone indefinately without charges
Torture
Kidnap and send adversaries to foreign countries to be tortured
Spy on American citizens without a warrant

The only thing they hadn't gotten to was giving the Unitary Executive the right to order Summary Execution.

They just moved in that direction.

Can the President Order a Killing on U.S. Soil?

In the latest twist in the debate over presidential powers, a Justice Department official suggested that in certain circumstances, the president might have the power to order the killing of terrorist suspects inside the United States.

Steven Bradbury, acting head of the department's Office of Legal Counsel, went to a closed-door Senate intelligence committee meeting last week to defend President George W. Bush's surveillance program.

Current and former government officials said they could think of several scenarios in which a president might consider ordering the killing of a terror suspect inside the United States.

1. The operative word here is...
...terrorist "suspect". By whose criteria? Bush's? That man is a shitty judge of character, and has PROVEN to often base his decision on flawed intelligence. I do not trust him with the power of life and death, not of me, not of US soldiers...

9. How many suspects were rounded up in the U.S. after9-11?
Didn't it number in the hundreds or thousands? How many were actually charged or convicted? This is really scary stuff. I totally negates our system of justice. What will he want next?

12. Right
Try to find the film "UnConstitutional." It shows this and how months after 9/11 lots of Arabs were taken for no reason and left in prison for months and nothing charged against them.

14. padilla
This brings to mind the Padilla case. He was suspected of terrorism and was held for several yrs. Now he's not even being charged with terrorism.......probably because they couldn't provide evidence!

8. He's SUPPOSE to abide by our constitution and I don't see anyone
stopping him from subverting it. Is there anyone who CAN stop him? Is there anyone who WILL stop him and if so, HOW?

5. When I read stuff like this, I know that the terrorist have won. They
wanted to destroy the US, and they have succeeded. It is taking just a tad longer than they thought, but the result will be the same.

7. It worked for Mussolini
just allow the police to shoot the "bad guys" and leave the bodies by the side of the road as a reminder.

15. They've always been in favor of ANY executions
particulary those involving a rope, a tree and a burning cross. The point is actually to kill somebody; they've never been really concerned about the identity, guilt or innocence of the person they kill.

It's as if they know something we don't.
