Poll question: What do you think/know about 24?
First, do you watch it or not? Obviously that will affect your opinion.

Second, do you think it is biased left, right, or not at all? Please ignore the standard connotations of the word "biased" here. I use it to mean that the show was constructed in such a way that it carries messages favorable to one side of the political spectrum.

If you haven't watched it, what are you basing your judgement on?

1. Don't watch it, right - by the people who coddle the producers and
a thread I saw here "isn't torture OK - because I saw on 24...."
That told me all I need to know about it.

2. I Just Watch 24 For Entertainment Sake & Think It's One Of The Best Shows On TV. Ain't That Enough?
Do I need to inject microscope politics into everything? I certainly hope not, as life would certainly become far more miserable if I did...

Their Zamboni driver is a raving Giuliani conservative, and one of the players gave money to the Eeevil Hillary!

Repent! Repent!

12. Me too!
I also read for entertainment as do many here.
I don't hear rants from the 24 haters about how certain books shouldn't be read so why are they so down on a tv show?

26. Oh please...
What Limbaugh likes is of no relevance to the show. You know it is possible for left and right wingers to be fans of the same program. Shocking I know.

Frankly I just enjoy the show rather than nitpicking it to death for bias. "24" is a James Bond-type TV show, nothing more.

And if people would watch the show rather than knee-jerking "but it's on Fox!!", then they would realize that right-wingers and corporatists are skewered as well.

4. I Don't watch 24 because it is simply bad TV
The acting is adequate. but the writing is just so incrediblly bad that I rolled my eyes continually. It has fine plots but the office backstabbing and jockeying for better pay in the terrorist center when there is a guy with a nuke wandering around LA is just ludicrous

This poll leaves out that rather obvious option, doesn't it.

5. entertaining, engrossing propaganda for RW authoritarians
it (correctly) shows "security" and "intelligence" operations for the amoral functions that they are

but the plot circumstances and story premises are pure RW propaganda bullshit

A rehash of the 1980's Clancy Techno Thrillers, mixed with McGyver and Law & Order (without the Law part). Very much an "end justifies the means" train of thinking.....

17. The script writing is just so awful it hurts.
We're expected to believe over and over that suicidal mass-murdering terrorists will tell Jack everything because he steps on their bullet wound or punches them in the face or threatens them.

And then we're expected to believe that these men willing to sacrifice everything for the cause would actually tell him the truth when if they sent him off on a false lead for 30 minutes he would be too late to stop their dastardly plan.

And the hero Jack is constantly shown to be the most incompetent, bumbling fool in crime-fighting history, catching and losing the world's most dangerous terrorist sometimes 3 times a day.... His certain response? "Dammit!"

The show plots are just so embarrassing, but the suspense is what makes up for everything else and keeps it popular.

And then there's the same phrases over and over and over, every character with the same language, like "up to speed".

I can't see it on TV, but my son bought the CDs and forced me to watch them with him -- sometimes 4 hours non-stop. Yikes!

One last thing. All the good guys drive those ridiculous black SUVs, like the whole show's an ad for SUVs.

or commercials. I wont be held hostage by a TV show. And if you think the show doesn't present a right-wing world view, then you aren't watching the show. That doesn't mean it cant be entertaining.

On the other hand, if they cut out all the useless padding, the show could be called 12. It's only 18 or so hours as it is, the rest is all advertising.

35. I have seen every season multiple times. I don't think it's biased at all.
Remember - they had David Palmer as president and Palmer was a democrat. Then they had the evil Logan as president - and he was most obviously a republican. They never state the party of the president on the show.

36. What I know: Joel Surnow, EP of 24 is chummy with Ailes.
He is behind the fake news show (to counter The Daily Show) that will be aired on Fox News:

"I showed it to Roger, and he really liked it and thought it could work on Fox News if we could make it conform to some of the restraints" of a cable news channel, EP Joel Surnow (of "24" fame) says. He says it's a "satirical news format" that would "tip more right as 'The Daily Show' tips left."

Gough says FNC may air two episodes of the show on "Saturday nights in late January, with the possibility that it could become a weekly show for the channel..."

http://bigpicture.typepad.com/comments/2006/11/fox_to_air_fake.html

I'd never watch 24 because it's subversive propoganda from the right.
