Nov 2006 - Lieberman says he won't rule out GOP caucusing...countdown to the switch?
Loserman seem's to have become the rethugs new poster boy. In the past 3 days we have heard Shrub himself (last night), John McCain, and Mitch McConnell all refer to him as a symbol of bipartisan support for the escalation. In fact, McConnell went as far to add on Anderson Cooper last night that the "former Democratic V.P. nominee" supports Shrub's asinine plan to increase troops in Iraq.

Worse then Zell Miller, who simply never voted with the DEMS; Joe seems content to play upon the rock and the hard place he knows DEMS in the Senate are in. He is mocking his former allegiance to our party and cozies up to rethug leadership at will - with no fear of recrimination for his disgusting displays because if Joe "is no longer comfortable with DEMS", he can trade in his blue tie for a red one. I wonder, are we compromising too much to keep Joe comfy.

Part of me wishes this cowardly hypocrite would do it already; how long is it worth putting up with the stench of a litter box which needs emptying. Or do we dance with this jetsam because we have to?
Is he using us or are we using him?

Our party's relationship with this man needs to end - I'm questioning how best to make that happen.
Anybody want to set up a DU betting pool on the date Joe's going to switch parties?

From the Boston Globe last November:

WASHINGTON -- Senator Joseph I. Lieberman of Connecticut said yesterday that he will caucus with Senate Democrats in the new Congress, but he would not rule out switching to the Republican caucus if he starts to feel uncomfortable among Democrats.

1. Not surprising.
He has to know he was re-elected primarily by republicans.

2. If primary voters reject McCain, THEN I see the Unity Party forming and a McCain-Lieberman ticket.
And the corpmedia will kiss their asses from here to eternity.

3. I know it would put us in the minority (until 11/08) but in some ways I wish he would just go
and get it over with and we wouldn't have to put up with his threats.

4. If it happens, it happens. If it doesn't, it doesn't.
One thing is for sure by the Connecticut election results, though: the painting of Lieberman as a Republican gave him about six percentage points in the election that he didn't have in three-way polls before the primary. In other words, if you say a 90% Democrat is a Republican, you will get Republicans to vote for him.

5. I don't think he's the *symbol* of 'bipartisan support for the escalation'...
I think he's just about the ONLY bipartisan support for the escalation.... Maybe since he's been so loyal and unwaivering in his support of bush's war, bush will reward him with sharing his "election fix" in '08.... <shudder>

6. There are a lot more repukes up for election
in '08 and the writing on the wall says the Dems should pick up more seats. If he does switch now he would then be in the minority, would he really want to do that or just be a thorn in the Dems side?

7. I think this election in CT was stolen in some way...I cannot believe
that even the repugs want this war to continue and that Lieberman made it very clear he was behind this war 100%...also some of the dems were behind him (probably mostly DLC dems) and also wants to keep this war going for whatever their reasons...it is making them money, they are with the Jewish lobbyist, etc..

9. perhaps the netroots could cozy up to another Rep. Senator
Collins? Snowe? and entice them to switch to Independent/Dem?
For all the effort the netroots put into defeating Joe in the primaries, getting a Republican senator to jump ship would be as big, or even bigger accomplishment.

If Collins or Snowe or another Moderate/Sane Republican senator takes a stand against the escalation, and votes for some legislation with teeth blocking funding, perhaps the DU community could respond with, I don't know, some roses or something? Am I dreaming? Is there a senator who could be swayed?

Then Joe would really need a "Waah-mbulance"!

15. Oddly enough, I think Hagel might flip.
But, then again, if he's running for president, probably not. Can't remember if he has announced or not.

11. We kept being told before the election to vote for the DINOs
because of all the people that would put in power over the committees.

Now it's Pay The Piper time.

When do we get to say "I told ya so."?
