How many Repug Senate seats are up for election in 2006?
And how many votes does it take to impeach in the House and convict in the Senate?

1. don't know how many seats are up.
But it takes a simple majority to impeach in the House & two thirds to convict in the Senate.

2. Since Senate terms run 6 years
Assume that about a third of all Senate seats are up for reelection in any even-numbered year. Bringing articles of impeachment against a president requires the approval of just a simple majority (greater than 50%) of House members. But convicting him requires the approval of two-thirds of the Senate.

5. There is a wikipedia entry on this
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/U.S._Senate_election,_2006

The bottom of the page lists each Sen up for re-election and the open seats.

7. 15 repub, 17 Dem, and 1 Indie
There are 33 Senate elections in 2006. Fifteen of the seats are currently held by repubs, 17 by Democrats, and one by Jeffords (Ind, votes with Dems). If Bernie Sanders (also an Indie who votes with the Dems) captures Jeffords seat, then the Dems need a net gain of 6 more seats. If Sanders were to lose to a repub, the Dems would need a net gain of 7.

It takes a two thirds majority to convict in an impeachment trial. So you can forget about that.

8. Thanks
I see that 4 Dems are retiring. And two others also may. Not good.

So, I say forget about impeachment. We must try to take Bush's power away. Regaining the majority in both houses is very doable.
