What I noticed re the Ford coverage
was that these talking heads are trying to outdo each other in terms of access to Ford. It's hysterically funny. It's now about them.

5. i think this was pretty tame compared to Regan's send off.
everybody jostling for position, really over the top and whorish, even for a supremely whorish group of squawking heads.

6. I couldn't help but notice that Bush and Cheney both ..
emphasized their praise of Ford's pardon of Nixon. So transparent.

9. he did everything but wink at the audience!
The fact it was supposed to be a sombre, dignified occasion made it so much worse. Those guys really do think it's "all about them". The only consolation being that they were probably fuming over Ford's rebuke delivered to them (Rumsfeld too) in that Woodward interview released last week.

7. OK we've had our day of mourning and buried Jerry...
...--can we put the flags back to full-staff? I'm not mourning him any more. (Pardon me if I sound bitter.....)

8. If this is what they do for someone never elected...
and served just over 2 years, I CERTAINLY pray that the send off Big Dawg gets goes on for a MONTH....

I can hear Tweety during Big Dawg's send off. CONSTANTLY referring to Monica, Monica, Monica...

Look, Gerry Ford seemed like a nice enough guy, thrown into a position, etc., but this all day coverage and morbid fascination (the service in Michigan was called ON AIR as "private" - yeah that's why we're ALL watching it) is a bit much. But as someone said, this was the extreme in tame next to Reagan, that was almost carnival-like in it's overboard idolatry.

the more they expose themselves, not that I needed any further proof.
