Silver in clothing keeps odors away

Noble is among a handful of companies that produce silver-coated textiles for use in the burgeoning market for high-tech performance clothing. The 10-year-old, privately held company's sales have grown an average of 50 percent per year, and doubled in the last 18 months.

Silver kills odor-causing bacteria; it also redistributes body heat, keeping the wearer warm in cold weather and cool in hot weather.

1. I wonder if it would work in people's shoes?
There could be a big market for silverized socks.

3. Don't Crocs already have silver in them?
I know this, unlike TEVAs, Crocs never need to move outside cause they stink.

6. That's all I wear are Crocs
but the reason they don't stink is because they are made of latex. Latex doesn't absorb odors. Unfortunately, Crocs are not the prettiest shoes around but most of the time I don't care, I'd rather be comfortable. Also, they have holes for ventilation and when it's wet or snowing out you can't wear them.

11. Go to crocs.com - they make crocs without holes.
I have several pairs without holes on top or sides.

I have worn nothing but crocs for over two years. Biggest problem is storage - I have 16 pairs of crocs but have retained traditional shoes in case I ever decide to wear them again (not likely) but space is really becoming a problem.

When I have a meeting and need to dress up a little I just wear my crocs without holes and use an Armoral wipe to shine them up.

12. Cool,
thanks for the info.

Definitely need a few pairs without holes. I like the Armoral idea. LOL.

13. Crocs make great presents.
I have started several family members and friends on the crocs journey and have received requests (color/style) for presents this Christmas.

My elderly parents wear them down to my 1 1/2 year old great-niece. We have a pic of her when she was 9 months teething on my size 11 red crocs. She found them on the floor, rolled over and started sucking on them. Since they don't weigh anything they were easy for her to handle even though they were as big as she. Now she has a pair just like them - she points to her feet, points to the picture and laughs.

Most males ages 25-55 think they are ugly but if you give them a pair they will wear them. When anyone makes fun of them they have good cover because they say "My crazy aunt gave them to me".

Now that I think about it - crocs should pay me a commission.

15. One company has been putting it in their climbing shoes
climbing shoes get notoriously smelly. I bought a pair and it kept them from smelling bad for close to a year.

7. I'm guessing this is the same principle that works on CPU's
when you put that light coat of silver gel on the CPU. The silver gel spreads the heat and cools down the processor.

Maybe they could put silver in insulation or in roof shingles to save on energy cost?

9. can we throw silver sheets over the people who marinate in perfume?
The ones who stink up an entire auditorium when they walk in?

Being an asthmatic, I'd be more than willing to carry a backpack full of the stuff - just to get through the perfume section at Macy's at Christmastime. ugh!

14. I'm not comfortable buying this yet
There may be environmental costs in having widespread use of silver in clothing.

17. Silver is germ killing
Silver is germ killing; now they sell bandages with silver oxide in them (read:tarnish) to kill germs. It is probably why silverware has been used for centuries.

Also you can investigate colloidal silver, which some people make using pure silver electrodes, current, and water to make water that allegedly has germicidal properties.
