the Dems should leverage the impeachment threat
they should initiate oversight hearings and begin building a case.

Don't talk publicly in terms of impeachment. But Bush and Cheney and their lawyers will know.

This will put the dems in a pretty good bargaining position. Get Bush to do some pretty surprising things. Pundits will ask, why is Bush doing these things? They may or may not theorize that Bush is doing it to avoid getting impeached.

1. The case warranting impeachment is already built.
The investigations are more about compounding the evidence and exposing the level of criminality of this administration to the public over a period of time rather than exploding their heads all at once.

Plus, you have to take into account all the investigations by the Justice Dept. into Abramoff, Cunningham, MZM, Hookergate, Coingate, New Hampshire Phone Jamming, AIPAC, etc. and Fitzgerald's Plame investigation and the Justice Dept. and SEC investigations into Enron, Halliburton, KBR, Harken Energy, WorldCom, Citigroup, etc. Having control of the committees means we can subpoena witnesses from all these different cases and Federal Prosecutors, Federal Investigators, Independent Counsels and Justice Dept. Prosecutors can bring evidence before the House and Senate Judiciary Committees, the House Government Reform Committee, the House Government Reform Subcommittee on National Security and Emerging Threats, etc. Conyers, Leahy, Waxman and Kucinich will be chairs of those Committees. They can also set up a Special Select Committee in either the House or the Senate or both and appoint an Independent Prosecutor for the Office of Independent Counsel. There's many whistleblowers like Sibel Edmonds, Russell Tice, Richard Grove, Indira Sangh, Richard Clarke, James Comey, Bunny Greenhouse, Lawrence Wilkerson, etc. who can testify before the Committees. So having multiple investigations by the House, Senate, Justice Dept., FBI, CIA, Federal Prosecutors, Independent Counsels, GAO, SEC, etc. should help move everything along very quickly.
