I want Norman Lear to write a movie or show for Richard Dreyfus
After watching Lear's interview and just being wowed by Dreyfus only half way through the show ... I can just taste the vehicle that he could create for Dreyfus to play.

We need a Mr. Hollands Opus for Government Education!

Founder Of PFAW Norman Lear: School Prayer Is A “Joke.” “I grew up with prayer in schools. It was a joke. We also pledged allegiance to the flag. But when you are six or seven, you cannot do anything by rote without finding funny ways to change it. It grows less meaningful each time. Unless you’re living in an entirely different culture with somebody behind you banging a drum at you. But that’s not America. So prayer in school was a joke.” (Thomas M. 6. He's right about Civics.
I can't believe that it's not a requirememnt in High School anymore. That's insane.

He has lots to say. I wish he had more time...

7. Heck, I had Civics in Junior High
It was the preparation World Studies and American History when I was a kid. You had to understand how the system worked and what your responsibilities were before you could compare and contrast it to the real time world and how it got to where it was then. I liked his idea of bringing it back to the schools ... the sooner the better.

9. I agree..
Too many Americans do not know how their government works. Those were impressive and inspired presentations by both Norman Lear and Richard Dreyfus.

Norman Lear saying that he was a liberal indeed, but a staunch conservative when it came to the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. He acccurately reflected my own positions.

And Richrad Dreyfus urging Americans to study how they are governed and to demand their right to examine that governance anytime they want.

I am looking for the transcripts. I urge people to watch for the repeats this week on HBO.

10. Norman Lear says he's never writing again :(
I tried to approach him to exec produce a sitcom project in 2005, and he and his reps were nice but insisted Norm is never doing entertainment biz again. To me this is rotten news. I tried to get him to see the way to reaching America is through its living room televisions. He didn't go for it. :(

<-------- works in TV/movie biz

MAJOR F*CKING BUMMER. I got depressed and actually drank after his email back.
You know what Lear produced in the 70's, don't you? WE NEED HIM NOW!!!!

11. Yes, I do
I wish they would release Maude on DVD. There are still so many lessons in that to be revisited, don't you think?

12. ***YES***
I wish he were here to give us a Lear-style sitcom about a Muslim Palestinian-American family and their troubles, tribulations and foibles in Bush-era America. Norman's people told me "YOU do it - be the next generation".

I'm like yeah, I have CBS funding right here. Sure.
