every piece of legislation we pass should say "no signing statement
affixed to this legislation will have no force and effect."

Might work. At least it will slap that smirk off his face.

1. Umm..double negative there dear..
"ANY signing statement affixed to this legislation will have no force or effect."

Something like that would be good, but I hope it won't be needed.

3. you don't think bush will issue signing statements now?
I think he'll issue more.

And yes, it should say "no signing statement affixed to this legislation will have any legal force or effect."

12. Oh, I really
have no idea. It would be just like him to be childish and keep doing it unless advised otherwise. I don't necessarily think he wants to piss off the Congress, though....it's gonna be an interesting tap dance to watch, that's for sure.

10. I was at a seminar today with Attorneys & Accounants
There was a 15 minute discussion about the difference between a comma, a period and a semicolon in the bankruptcy bill passed that was passed. Language and the ability to write clearly is VERY important.....

4. No signing statements. Can we null and void all the previous signing statements?
One can dream.

6. that's an important point
the past statements should be declared illegal, if necessary, by a new resolution or amendment.

5. What legal or constitutional basis do 'signing statements' have?
Any lawyers who could explain?

Or is bush just pulling this out of his ass?

7. only so much as a court would allow
or only so far as Congress allows. Think of the levers that we have to hold the Executive accountable, and how Bush has manipulated Congress' refusal to hold him accountable. Congress HAS to step forward and ACT.

9. Does he have a line item veto?
Because if he does, that sentence would simply be crossed out.

11. he has a recission clause which allows him to strip pork from bills
It doesn't give him authority to strike out or ignore enacted laws or resolutions.

13. Oh no, we want signing statements.
And we want Dubya to try to act on them. All the more to investigate, and more charges for the impeachment and trial.
