Haggard: Why is it all about the gay sex, and not the meth?
I mean, come on, this is meth. It's a serious enough problem that people have to sign a flippin' log book just to get their Sudafed because of it, for Pete's sake. And here's a big-time White House advisor using it. So where's the uproar?

Maybe if he'd gone to a garden-variety female hooker there'd be an uproar about the meth?

But I think you're right in a way. He won't admit it, though, because he can go to jail for that.

3. I don't think Haggard ever preached against drug use
Two things. First, Haggard was vociferously anti-gay and said (apparently) next to nothing against drug use. His hypcricy makes the gay sex aspect much more salacious.

Second, as far as his Talibangelical following is concerned, drug use is a very minor sin. Homosexuality is a very, very big one.

7. NBC had a video
about Haggards wife saying how she still loved him and so forth. I would be willing to swear that the blame for his gay tryst will be all blamed on her.

10. Which would be against their own rhetoric
"Being gay" is a choice that one makes for himself. If his wife "drove" him to "be gay," what does that say about his ability to be "the head of his family, as Christ is head of the church"?

43. Exactly! The reason it is "all about the gay sex and not the meth"
is because homosexuality has been a main theme of all these phony evangelicals, in recent years.

They have made a lot of enemies by being so unforgiving of other people's viewpoints. Considering that phony evangelicals travel under the banner of "Christianity"--a religion which preaches tolerance and forgiveness--their hypocrisy is glaring.

I remember, years ago, that a former beauty contest winner, who tried to break into show biz, had the meanness to get rather rude in speaking about homosexuals. Her name was Anita Bryant. People--many of them homosexuals--rose up and destroyed her.

Where were these people, I wondered, while hundreds of "Anita Bryants" have taken over our radio stations and even our politics? Where were those homosexuals who wouldn't take any shit off Anita Bryant?

Looks like they're finally back. Looks like they're hunting republicans.
I think uncloseted homosexuals have been friends of the truth during the Foley and Haggard REPUBLICAN scandals. And gay men who've trysted with some of these closeted, self-hating, republican homosexuals are no longer remaining silent. I think it's great.

And I'd love to see a chapter in history books, one day, entitled, "How the Homosexuals Saved America".

28. I don't care about the drug per se,
But when these high level Republicans (think Limbaugh, too) get a walk where real people would get hard time, it's pretty vile.

I know Teddy Boy wasn't actually caught with meth, but if the tip had been called in about you or me we would have SWAT teams tearing out the walls of our houses in no time flat.

13. It's the hypocrisy of the anti-gay agenda.
Being a closet gay and promoting legislation against yourself is really the ultimate hypocrisy, isn't it?

It is literally cutting off your nose to spite your face!

therefore the irony lies with the prostitute more than the drugs.

People feeling persecuted amongst friends need to reevaluate.

So many people have been jumping gleefully because another bad-guy is gay that we've been stuck on that topic.

Let's see if the meth takes center stage in round two.

18. Good point.
I've never heard of anybody overdosing on sex (of any variety) and then going on a shooting rampage.

No, seriously, you're right. If it had been a female hooker, the issue would have dropped like a stone. Jimmy Swaggart was caught with female hookers, and, while the jokes ran fast and furious, it just didn't have the same impact the Haggard story seems to be having.

I see the hypocrisy (do I ever -- I keep a running list of these hypocrites), but the bottom line is that everybody (the media, and far too many Joe Q. Publics) is treating the "gay sex" angle as if it were a crime. It's hypocrisy to the highest degree, but it's not a crime. It can't be equated with meth use.

drugs, adultery, homosexuality. ALL of these add up to hypocrisy and since the right has made gay marriage such a cornerstone of their morality superiority crap.. that's why the hypocrisy settles on that issue.

Perhaps if that guy hadn't made his living trashing gay people to the point he implied they are evil etc., it wouldn't be a problem. He did - therefore he needs to be nailed on that issue.

The drug use and adultery are more issues of his personal failings - his gay bashing while being gay himself hurt too many other people.

32. To me this pass being given him is more dangerous to children than Foley
Foley preyed on young men in their mid to late teens and never attacked any of them that I've heard about and has been harshly rebuked for it. Haggerd is not getting any criticism for using Meth and that pretty much tells the kids it is okay. Hell a renowned preacher can use it and no one says anything so it has to be okay.:wtf: kind of message is that???????
