NY-20, NY-19: Dirty Trick NRCC Robo-calls turn off Gillibrand, Hall voters -- Rove's latest
This is worrisome, Rove's got a new dirty trick for 2006 and he just unleashed it against Gillibrand and John Hall. This should be a CRIME!

The Politics of Misinformation (Updated)
November 6, 2006 at 1:12 pm by Elizabeth Benjamin

Talkingpointsmemo has some reports of alleged nefarious last-minute robocalls, including repeat messages intended to annoy voters into not supporting their candidate of choice and misdirecting people to the wrong polling places.

I’ve now had reports of both in the 20th CD.

A Democrat working the doors for Kirsten Gillibrand e-mailed in to say he was encountering people who said they had received multiple calls and were no longer interested in supporting her.

A Republican connected to the campaign of Gillibrand’s opponent, U.S. Rep. John Sweeney, R-Clifton Park, called in to say GOP officials have had reports from Queensbury voters receiving calls directing them to vote in Glens Falls.

The campaign of Democratic 19th CD Congressional candidate John Hall, who is trying to unseat Republican U.S. Rep. Sue Kelly, says he’s a victim of those repeat robocalls, too.

The Daily Politics has a sample call posted. It seems fairly obvious to me who it’s from - but only if you listen all the through to the end. And how many people do that?

UPDATE: Evidently, this is going on in other states, too. The NRCC is the culprit - a fact the committee does not deny, and one that is readily discerned if you listen to the whole call.

But not if you hang up for the umpteenth time, seething with anger and annoyance.

And that, of course, is exactly the point.

I bet the GOP report of dirty robo-calls from the Dem campaign is total BS!
