Republicans, gay marriage and gay bashing: it's time to call it what it is.

I hate the term gay marriage, but that's what equal rights have been labeled. Whenever the Republicans play the card that Democrats will allow gay marriage, we all need to stand up and say "yeah, so what?" We have to make people understand that playing on fears of gay marriage rights is just a more elegant form of gay bashing. If someone brings it up as a reason to vote Republican, ask them if gay marriage is more a threat to their family than the possibility of losing their house should they lose their job or get sick.

2. I think what we need to say is

Kerry and Cheney held the same position on civil rights/unions for all.

Bush and Kerry also had the same stated position on this issue.

They are USING this as a means to drive bigots to the polls, don't take the bait.

4. It is all in how the issue is framed

As far as I'm concerned, I do not want "gay marriage." I want EQUAL marriage. When people around me start talking about "gay marriage," I start talking about "straight marriage." It usually doesn't take long before eyes start opening.

5. Gay Tax Dollars

I doubt the yahoo bush supporters in my state of Mississippi who live in trailors and take their foodstamps to Wal-Mart would want Gays to stop paying taxes which fund their "benefits."

If gays can't marry and can't serve openly in the military then I see know reason why they should have to pay taxes. What's that equal protection nonsense? Maybe some conservative lurker can explain that concept to me. Please share with me why our kids are dying in Iraq. To give conservatives the right to hate gays in the name of Jesus Christ?

7. Mr. President, if "gay marriage" laws are eventually passed, then what?

I wish someone would pin him with that direct question. Bogeymen tend to

9. Exactly - instead of hiding from this issue because we're afraid of

losing votes, we need to make this a non-issue except in the sense that anyone who brings it up is gay bashing. We also need to emphasize how this form of gay bashing is being used as a distraction from issues that really are threatening families - cost of health care, lack of job security, high cost of college, etc etc.
