Yeah. Wow. I regained new respect for the show. I wonder if Fox will censor it? If not, wow. Wow. I think they leaked it on purpose because Fox plans on censoring it, but it's an incredible episode.
For those that have not seen it, here is the synopsis. Spoilers to follow:
First of all, it's a traditional 3 part Halloween show. The first 2 parts are the usual mix of neo-simpsons idiotry (the new writers are a constant combination of both suck and brilliant) but the third one is genius. It's called "The Day the Earth Looked Stupid", an obvious reference to "The Day the Earth Stood Still", and it talks about not that story but the Orson Wells "War of the Worlds" drama, how people fell for it, and so forth. At the end of the episode, Kang and Kodos decide that now is the time to attack (in the depression rich sepia tones of 1938 mind you) and lay waste to Springfield. Total waste. The episode ends with the following, which I will transcribe word for word:
<Scene is Kang and Kodos walking about a ruined office in Springfield town hall, wearing military stuff>
Kodos: Colonel Kang, your report? Kang: Ah, the Earthlings continue to resent our presence.
<the sound of a huge explosion goes off nearby, startling them>
Kang (angry): You said we'd be greeted as liberators!! Kodos: Don't worry. We still have the people's hearts and minds. <he holds up a human heart in one hand and a brain in the other> Kang (depressed): I don't know... I'm starting to think "Operation: Enduring Occupation" was a bad idea. Kodos: We HAD to invade. They were working on weapons of mass disintegration!! Kang (angry, defiant): Sure they were!!
<kang turns toward the town of springfield, an debris littered wasteland of craters and explosions>
<the scene pans out>
Kang: This sure is a LOT like Iraq will be...
<music starts, some old song "I don't want to set the world on fire" -- I don't personally know it, maybe someone else knows>
----
Incidentally not talking about this is pointless, everyone I know has seen this episode as it's all OVER the internet. It will be talked about before the election, I'm sure.
