Anyone else catch a preview of The Simpsons set to air Nov. 5?
Yeah. Wow. I regained new respect for the show. I wonder if Fox will censor it? If not, wow. Wow. I think they leaked it on purpose because Fox plans on censoring it, but it's an incredible episode.

For those that have not seen it, here is the synopsis. Spoilers to follow:

First of all, it's a traditional 3 part Halloween show. The first 2 parts are the usual mix of neo-simpsons idiotry (the new writers are a constant combination of both suck and brilliant) but the third one is genius. It's called "The Day the Earth Looked Stupid", an obvious reference to "The Day the Earth Stood Still", and it talks about not that story but the Orson Wells "War of the Worlds" drama, how people fell for it, and so forth. At the end of the episode, Kang and Kodos decide that now is the time to attack (in the depression rich sepia tones of 1938 mind you) and lay waste to Springfield. Total waste. The episode ends with the following, which I will transcribe word for word:

<Scene is Kang and Kodos walking about a ruined office in Springfield town hall, wearing military stuff>

Kodos: Colonel Kang, your report?
Kang: Ah, the Earthlings continue to resent our presence.

<the sound of a huge explosion goes off nearby, startling them>

Kang (angry): You said we'd be greeted as liberators!!
Kodos: Don't worry. We still have the people's hearts and minds. <he holds up a human heart in one hand and a brain in the other>
Kang (depressed): I don't know... I'm starting to think "Operation: Enduring Occupation" was a bad idea.
Kodos: We HAD to invade. They were working on weapons of mass disintegration!!
Kang (angry, defiant): Sure they were!!

<kang turns toward the town of springfield, an debris littered wasteland of craters and explosions>

<the scene pans out>

Kang: This sure is a LOT like Iraq will be...

<music starts, some old song "I don't want to set the world on fire" -- I don't personally know it, maybe someone else knows>

----

Incidentally not talking about this is pointless, everyone I know has seen this episode as it's all OVER the internet. It will be talked about before the election, I'm sure.

5. Me too
I hope Fox doesn't can it but I agree with the original poster in that this is probably why it's leaking. I haven't known of this to happen in the past with older episodes unless it's an official preview or whatever. How were you able to see it (original poster)?

6. Well it has leaked like all the other episodes but it leaked in a new way.
It's not a satellite rip from a pre-air, it's an actual badged copy of the episode made by Fox, and I quote from the episode's badging at 2 places during the episode:

PROPERTY OF FOX
REVIEW PURPOSES ONLY
FINAL AIR VERSION

2. I don't want to set the world on fire
I just want to start...a flame in your heart.

Made popular by, IIRC, the Ink Spots in the 1940s. :D

3. Fox will never censor The Simpson's.
It makes them far too much money!!!!! That network acts all holier than thou unless if affects the pocketbook.

8. There is an article on the episode on ABC website.
I think they may cut the line about Iraq at the end. I can't wait to see the episode and the timing is awesome. Let's just hope that the Simpson's fans will get out there and vote!!
