CALL SENATOR BYRD NOW - READ THIS

I just got off the phone with the Byrd's office in Washington. I told them I was constituent from West Virginia, and that I could not believe that the Senator would vote for Alito given his record against workers - he just came out with the mine safety issue yesterday, how could he possibly vote for him.

The woman told me because I was from West Virginia that she could tell me 90% of the calls were in FAVOR of him.

Please all you 'West Virginia' people - CALL NOW.

She also told me HE HAS NOT DECIDED YET.

90% of the calls are FOR Alito. The fundies are fired up about this one, or at least SOMEONE is fired up. There is a disgusting ad campaign urging people to phone in their support here in NE, how about in WV?

I am also shocked with all the mining accidents in recent weeks that he would still back this person knowing his views. :wow:

18. Dear Senator Byrd.
I watched you on C-Span and I saw the lapel pin that you are wearing. (I found a website where I can get one for myself). I know that you carry a copy of the Constitution with you all the time and that you understand, possibly better than anyone else there, the prerogatives of the Senate.

The right to filibuster is not of much use if there is no will to use it. What better time than now? With habeas corpus under attack, and our 4th amendment rights beseiged, how could there be a better, more opportune time to assert the rights of the minority for the protection of the least powerful?

Dear Senator Byrd, your state is small, but your stake is large indeed. I implore you to support a filibuster of this most UNworthy candidate, and keep the possibility for a humane Supreme Court alive.

Sincerely,

Dear Senator Byrd:

Please don't give in when our country is at stake! Please don’t fall for those misguided calls urging you to confirm Alito. Those people are brainwashed! You of all Senators, who carries a copy of the Constitution in your pocket, must know better.

Do not allow Judge Alito to be confirmed to the Supreme Court. This administration is out of control. It is now or never. Stand up and fight for your country.

Sincerely,
xxxxxxxxxx

Edited on Thu Jan-26-06 02:23 PM by napi21
I don't recall the posters name, but he's fairly new to DU & the Dem Party. He explained exactly how the Pubs operate. When they want something done, first, the preachers tell everyone on Sunday to "Call your Reps & Sens. There's contact info at the back of the church to tell you what to say and who to call. Call each one several times, using different accents, and call several times every day." THAT'S the way a relatively small group of people convince legislators there are LOTS of them!

I hate the idea of promoting deception, but I also believe that you can't fight a fire with a water gun! We really need to do the same thing!!!!!!!!!

After the Clarence Thomas hearings Senator Byrd wrote, “From years of experience, I would say that we do the country a disservice by rushing any nomination, unless there is a clear record as to the nominee’s integrity, capability, and qualifications, as well as an overriding need for speedy action.”

Dear Senator Byrd:

I am writing to request that you reconsider your vote in support of Samuel Alito for Supreme Court Justice. Judge Alito's support of the unitary executive theory can only be a further erosion to the checks and balances set forth between the branches of government in our Constitution, a separation of powers for which the Bush Administration has already shown utter contempt. His lack of support for the rights of workers flies in the face of the reforms we so desperately need to protect the men who risk their lives daily in our mines. His disdain for the rights of women and minorities, his record of extremist dissents, and his refusal to answer questions for the Senate Judiciary Committee all appear to reflect the Bush Administration's apparent agenda to dismantle the American governmental system as we know it.

ABA rating notwithstanding, Judge Alito's bizarre beliefs about executive power alone can be nothing but harmful to our state and our nation. As you are both a champion of the Constitution of the great state of West Virginia, I am hoping that for the sake of all of us you will reconsider and vote against Samuel Alito for the United States Supreme Court.

Respectfully yours,

leftyclimber

54. c'mon byrd man!!!! his speech now on c-span weaves a thread to SUPPORT of
Alito instead ... YUCK, he just said it!!!!

I asked that Senator Byrd support the filibuster. Even though I was not from WV, but as an American.

Then, my hot message quote was:

"I put all my trust in his love of the Constitution.
If not him to protect and defend it, who?
and if not protect and defend it NOW, when?"

obviously, no commitment by staff person, other than she would pass on the message ...
MAYBE every little bit will help here ... btw, I am not Byrd's constituent either!
